• Once we stepped into the hallway, I let the hospital room door swing shut behind us, cutting off Emily's sputtering threats. Maya caught my eye and winked.
• So her name wasn't really Petra Vance. She was Maya Chen, one of Simone's business partners who had helped install the cameras at Riley's place. She owned exactly one expensive suit and had practiced her "cold lawyer face" in the mirror for an hour this morning.
• I gave her a thumbs up as we walked into the elevators where I was sure that there wouldn’t be any cameras. I had to perform even for the cameras, because who knows if Damien’s smart ass figures this out and tries to check?
