Chapter 2 Entangled with Each Other

  • After a brief pause, he chuckled.
  • It bothered Jiang Mucheng somehow.
  • "Does that bring a bell, Mr. Huo?"
  • "How can I help you?"
  • "Stop sending your lovers to make trouble for me. I'm tired of this! I've never been a nuisance for the past three years, so please show some respect at least."
  • "Since when do you find yourself so important to me?"
  • As if she could see him smiling in a contemptuous sneer, Jiang Mucheng was left speechless.
  • She ended the call after a short while when she realized that there was indeed nothing to say.
  • The new medicine she developed could effectively control the spread of a respiratory disease. For branding purpose, there had been a great deal of publicity surrounding her recently, which unfortunately attracted the attention of the women around Huo Ciyi.
  • For days on end, they had been coming to her hospital for "medical service". They pretended to suffer from various diseases and requested to see her through networking with her leader.
  • As a doctor in respiratory medicine, Jiang Mucheng had been forced to deal with patients in internal medicine department, pediatric department, ophthalmology department and dental department. And today, it was obstetrics and gynecology department.
  • If the situation remained unchanged, before she broke down, her colleagues might have killed her for stealing their job.
  • Those jealous women had no idea that there were an ocean of obstacles between her and Huo Ciyi, and there was no way to bridge that gap.
  • However, they always tended to be entangled with each other.
  • When Jiang Mucheng stepped into her office the next day, she was surprised to see the director of hospital, who was a rare visitor, seated in her chair.
  • "Director?"
  • During her three years of work in this hospital, she had never met him personally until very recently she developed the new medicine, which earned her a chance of being praised by the Director.
  • Her heart sank. She must be in trouble.
  • Noticing the embarrassment on her face, the Director forced a smile, "Miss Jiang."
  • The embarrassment grew. "Director, how may I help you?"
  • "Yesterday, a pharmaceutical company contacted us and offered to invest in your research. I'm here to tell you the good news."
  • "And their representative is waiting for you in the reception room. He hopes that you can guide his tour in our Research and Development Center."
  • The Director asked straight.
  • "Me?"
  • The instinct told Jiang Mucheng to refuse. She was merely a researcher who knew nothing but the effect and ingredients, and usually the investors weren't very interested in this part.
  • And the invitation through the Director was too unexpected, and strange as well.
  • "Exactly. The investor is waiting. Quickly change the clothes and meet me there."
  • After saying so, the Director walked out and added seriously, "Don't miss this great chance."
  • For the possible investment in this project, Jiang Mucheng had to yield.
  • But when she saw the man in the reception room, she regretted the decision earlier.
  • "Huo Ciyi?"
  • Even muttering his name gave her a quiver.
  • He was seated there and perhaps for having waited for a long time, he was tapping the table with his fingers.
  • A crack of thunder hit her mind.
  • She just called him yesterday to discipline his troublesome lovers, and he came here himself today!
  • When would this drama end?
  • Huo Ciyi happened to look up at this moment.
  • The sunshine fell gently on his gorgeous face through the sheer curtain. He raised his eyebrow and smiled with his amorous but deep eyes.
  • He was the same nonchalant and attractive young man as he was three years ago.
  • Jiang Mucheng stopped at the door and stared at Huo Ciyi for way too long.
  • Before she could do anything, the Director broke the silence.
  • "Mr. Huo, this is Doctor Jiang Mucheng, the researcher on the new medicine."
  • "Jiang Mucheng?"
  • He repeated with his deep and enchanting voice.
  • He acted so naturally as if this was their first time to meet.
  • But they used to be so close. The hearty smile captured by the photo for their marriage certificate hadn't faded yet, while they needed someone else to introduce each other now. How ironic!
