Chapter 15 Unusually Sweet

  • Jiang Mucheng glanced at Huo Ciyi from the corner of her eyes and gritted her teeth. "Who was the one who said that buying a Peppa Pig watch for yourself makes you a social butterfly? What are the three requirements of being a social butterfly?" Said Jiang Mucheng tenderly over the phone in a soothing voice.
  • "Don't cry, don't fuss, and be good, eat your food."
  • As soon as she mentioned Peppa Pig, Jiang Erer was a little more obedient over the phone.
  • "Mhm. Yes. Don't cry. Wipe your tears away, be good and eat your food, okay?"
  • "Erer, I found something really fun for you. Come here and take a look... this cartoon has a baby version that's perfect for you."
  • Whilst Jiang Mucheng tried to cheer her up, she heard Jiang Yiyi's voice on the line.
  • Only then, was she able to relax a little.
  • "Marmar, I miss you. Come back quickly. I'm going to go watch cartoons now..."
  • After Jiang Erer finished talking, she didn't wait for Jiang Mucheng's response and hung up.
  • Jiang Mucheng carefully sighed in relief before she could finally relax.
  • When suddenly, she looked up and met Huo Ciyi's probing gaze. His falcon-like gaze seemed like it had the power to magically see through everything.
  • His stares made Jiang Mucheng feel guilty.
  • "A colleague at the hospital has a kid who calls me their godmother," she said to cover up.
  • Although Huo Ciyi couldn't hear what was said over the phone, he watched every little move Jiang Mucheng made in-person.
  • She instantly showed her cute side, her gentle, motherly side and her soft spoken voice. It all made Huo Ciyi feel like a cute little girl must have been on the phone.
  • He figured that was the only reason worth Jiang Mucheng to act so precious.
  • He'd never seen Jiang Mucheng's motherly side. This was the first time. Precisely speaking, Huo Ciyi had only ever seen Jiang Mucheng use everything she had to love him, and never any other time.
  • This gentle side of Jiang Mucheng actually made Huo Ciyi forget about their loveless divorce agreement. "Do you really like children?" He instinctively asked.
  • His words came unexpectedly for Jiang Mucheng, so she replied without much thought. "Little children are so cute. Their angels sent down from heaven. Don't tell me that you don't like them?!"
  • "It depends on who gave birth to them - whose kids they belong to."
  • Huo Ciyi replied flatly, then concentrated on driving and didn't continue the conversation.
  • But... for Jiang Mucheng, those words were like a pebble thrown into the lake of her heart. She was suddenly flustered again.
  • Did Huo Ciyi mean that if it were his children, he would love them?
  • Then, if he found out that Yiyi and Erer exist in this world, then he would be happy?
  • Jiang Yiyi was more mature, and so he was more rational when it came to the matter of having a father or not. He knew about Huo Ciyi, and he knew about the gossip about him on the news.
  • So, as for having a father or not, Yiyi only hoped for Jiang Mucheng to be happy.
  • However, Jiang Erer was different. Jiang Erer was just an ordinary little girl. She still didn't understand mum and dad's complicated relationship. Sometimes, she would go to the supermarket with Jiang Mucheng and see other girls with their dads. Then, she would point at those dads and ask Jiang Mucheng, "Mama, after daddy finished picking stars from the sky, will he come back and push me around in a little cart in the supermarket?"
  • Jiang Erer wanted a family and she made her wish for a dad very clear. Every time it was brought up, Jiang Mucheng would feel like she owed the children a lot.
  • When that thought came to mind, the car had stopped at the Huo family's doorstep without her realising. After Huo Ciyi got out of the car, he opened the car door for Jiang Mucheng.
  • Jiang Mucheng got out of the car and naturally took Huo Ciyi's hand. Slowly, she followed Huo Ciyi inside. The two looked unusually sweet.
