Chapter 5 Repaying Kindness

  • Penny immediately stood up and greeted Samuel respectfully, "Mr. Nolan!"
  • Samuel looked at her and said, "Come out!" Then, he reminded Charlie, "Go to bed early. We're not going if you can't wake up tomorrow."
  • "Got it, Daddy!" Charlie said and grinned at Penny. He was happy at her misfortune.
  • Penny wrinkled her nose at him and mouthed, "Little rascal!"
  • Charlie raised an eyebrow at her before preparing to sleep.
  • Samuel took notice of their interactions.
  • After leaving the room, he looked at Penny who had lowered her head. She was back to her usual serious demeanour.
  • "Is this how you usually interact with Charlie?"
  • Afraid of being dismissed, Penny immediately panicked and explained, "Mr. Nolan, I never meant to bully Charlie. I was just having fun with him. Children of his age should be having fun with games, but Charlie is very smart and mature for his age. Most of the time, I see him reading professional books and not interacting with kids his age ...
  • "I just want to give him happiness in my own way. I don't have any ill intentions towards him. Please don't fire me!"
  • Samuel frowned, "When did I say I was going to fire you?"
  • Penny was surprised. "Mr. Nolan, you're not angry with me?"
  • "Take good care of Charlie."
  • Samuel walked away after saying that.
  • He understood Charlie's temperament.
  • He was on friendly terms with a person if he was willing to argue and talk with them. Otherwise, he wouldn't bother at all.
  • For example, he ignored Wendy all the time.
  • The following morning, Penny saw Wendy sitting in the car while she was carrying Charlie's luggage.
  • Penny was taken aback. Am I being extra on this family trip?
  • Forget it, anything is fine as long as I get to go on a trip with Charlie.
  • Charlie remained silent all the way. They could only hear Wendy occasionally caring about him. Penny could feel Charlie's rejection of Wendy.
  • Charlie doesn't like her?
  • Wendy will be a nice stepmother though ...
  • They arrived at Blood Island at noon after a 3 hours drive.
  • Although the name of the island sounded a little eerie, it was picturesque.
  • Under the clear blue sky, there was an abandoned port and fisherman's houses. There were also remnants of ancient fortresses near the shore.
  • "Are you tired?" Samuel asked Wendy when he saw her rubbing her temples.
  • Samuel was cold towards everyone except for Wendy. It seemed that he loved her a lot.
  • Sensing Penny's gaze, Samuel turned around, and their eyes met.
  • The tenderness in his eyes was no longer there. Penny could feel his powerful aura.
  • She became nervous subconsciously. "I'll bring Charlie to the beach," Penny said and left.
  • "Auntie Penny, your reason for staying is not because of Daddy?"
  • "Charlie, I've told you hundreds of times. Your dad and Auntie Wendy are getting engaged. She is beautiful and kind to you. Your dad won't be interested in me even if I want him."
  • "She's a b*tch. You're a fool to think she's a good woman." Charlie kicked the sand and muttered.
  • "You don't like her?" Penny was puzzled, "But I think she's pretty nice."
  • "You're really a fool," Charlie said angrily.
  • Penny was already accustomed to his blunt remarks, so she simply smiled and replied, "Your dad likes her."
  • "He's actually quite smart, but too bad, he wanted to repay a kindness badly. He couldn't differentiate whether she was a nice woman or not."
  • Repaying a kindness?
