Chapter 2 The Beautiful Doctor
- Newcove Hospital.
- In a typical single-patient ward, Finnian's mother, Jennifer, lay motionless on the hospital bed. Beside her, Nathan, looking haggard and thin, was constantly there, attentively caring for her.
- At that moment, the door was pushed open, and Finnian and Yvonne walked in, one after the other.
- Nathan looked up, his expression momentarily stunned, somewhat surprised, yet also somewhat delighted. “Finn? Why are you back?”
- “I've been discharged,” Finnian said as he walked to the bedside. His expression was terribly gloomy when he saw his mother on the hospital bed, her face pale and unconscious.
- “Dad, how is Mom's condition?”
- “The doctor said there was severe neural trauma and atrophy in the brain, and the blood clot was obstructing. The chances of her waking up are slim,” Nathan said painfully, clutching one of his wife's hands, tears the size of beans rolling down his eyes. “Jennifer, our son has come to see you. Can you open your eyes and say something to him?”
- Finnian walked over to his mother, gently touched her forehead, and flipped her eyelids. Then, he took her pulse.
- Nathan wiped his tears, puzzled. “What are you doing, Finn?”
- “Dad, when I was in the military, I learned some traditional medicine from an old military doctor. Perhaps, I might be able to awaken mom,” Finnian said seriously. The Mystic Heaven Technique he practiced was not just a profound skill, it encompassed everything, including medical skills, mystic arts, and other magical things.
- During his time in Dragon Team, he had saved the lives of countless comrades with his remarkable traditional medicine skills. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that he could potentially bring anyone back from the brink of death as long as there was a breath left in them.
- However, due to his master's teachings, he couldn't share these matters with others. As a result, he had to tell a small lie to his father.
- Nathan sighed. “Stop joking around, Finn. Newcove Hospital is the best in our city. Even the most skilled and authoritative experts here couldn't treat your mother's condition. You've only learned a bit of the basics, so how could you possibly treat her? Besides, traditional medicine in our country has declined. It might still be somewhat effective for minor ailments like colds and coughs, but for your mother's serious illness, it's completely useless.”
- “Dad, we'll only know if it works after we try,” Finnian said with a faint smile. He let go of his mother's wrist. Traditional medicine emphasized visual inspection, listening, smelling, and touching. He had just taken his mother's pulse and found that her condition was not particularly severe. He then breathed a sigh of relief, and his gloomy expression lightened slightly.
- Nathan shook his head in disagreement. “Finn, I understand how you're feeling, but you should stop acting rashly. The attending physician told us that although the chances of Jennifer waking up are quite slim, as long as we treat her on time and frequently talk to her, a miracle might happen in three to five years. If you treat her recklessly and end up worsening Jennifer's condition, that would be disastrous.”
- “Indeed, Finn. Dad is right. We should follow the advice of the attending physician. After all, they are the professionals.” Yvonne didn't believe that Finnian could cure their mother. Although Jennifer had become vegetative, at least her life was not in immediate danger. If Finnian were to act recklessly and something were to happen to their mother, then their family would truly be shattered.
- “Dad, Yvonne, please believe in me. I will definitely cure Mom,” Finnian said with determination. Despite the objections from his father and sister, he proceeded to remove the IV drip from Jennifer's hand.
- Regarding Finnian's stubbornness, Nathan and Yvonne felt quite helpless. They didn't believe that Finnian could cure Jennifer. They only hoped that after Finnian would give up after he made a slight attempt.
- Finnian took out a box of silver needles from pocket. Utilizing his vital energy, he performed the mysterious Mystic Heaven Sixteen Needles technique, meticulously inserting each silver needle into the acupoints on Jennifer's head.
- Being the essence of the Mystic Heaven Healing Skills, Mystic Heaven Sixteen Needles required the vital energy of the Mystic Heaven Technique to control the needles. According to ancient texts, Mystic Heaven Sixteen Needles was the supreme acupuncture technique in traditional medicine. It had the power to defy fate and revitalize the body's energy channels. It was said that even if Jennifer was in a vegetative state, or even if one's breath had ceased, as long as it hadn't been more than half an hour, the Mystic Heaven Sixteen Needles could potentially bring the dead back to life.
- Finnian had just finished administering the Mystical Sky Sixteen Needles when the door was pushed open. A young and beautiful female doctor walked in, accompanied by a pretty-looking nurse pushing a medical cart.
- The beautiful doctor was around twenty-four or twenty-five years old. Her glossy, black hair was elegantly swept up high, and her facial features were exquisitely delicate. She had an oval face, eyes as clear as water, a fine nose, eyebrows as dark as ink, and skin as smooth as cream. Her skin looked so delicate it looked as if it would break with a mere touch.
- She was clad in a white lab coat, yet it could not conceal her innate beauty. It only served to accentuate her tall and slender figure, making it even more enchanting. Her waist, as delicate as a willow branch, was slim enough to hold in one arm. Beneath the lab coat, a glimpse of her slender legs, wrapped in flesh-colored stockings, could be seen. The stockings were so sheer and lustrous that they seemed to glow. On her feet, she wore a pair of white high-heeled sandals, revealing five playful and charming toes, petite and captivating.
- The beautiful doctor was Catherine Lowell. She was Jennifer's attending physician. Despite her young age, her medical expertise was highly advanced. She held a master's degree in clinical medicine from a renowned medical school in Jacaster. If it weren't for her unwillingness to rely on her father's connections, she could have easily stayed in a top-tier large hospital in Jacaster. There was no reason for her to come to a municipal hospital in Newcove.
- “Mr. Lambert, it's time to change the patient's wound dressing,” said Catherine as the young nurse pushed the medical cart to the bedside.
- “W-What happened here? Who removed the patient's IV drip?” The look on Catherine's pretty face changed as she held the discarded IV in her hand. When she saw the silver needles all over Jennifer's head, she was so shocked that she lost her composure. “Who did this? Have you all gone mad?”
- “It was me. I was the one who removed the IV drip, and I was the one who inserted the silver needles. I was treating my mother,” Finnian glanced at Catherine, a sense of astonishment arising within him. Although he had seen countless beauties before, he had rarely encountered such a refreshingly unique beauty like the one before him. She was in no way inferior to his sister, Yvonne.
- “Treating her? Are you also a doctor? Which hospital are you from?” Catherine was very surprised.
- “I'm not a doctor at the hospital. However, I have studied traditional medicine for a few years. Medicine is my hobby,” Finnian said.
- “You're not even a doctor, and yet you dare to treat patients recklessly? You're incredibly audacious! Do you even realize how serious the patient's condition is? What if your careless treatment worsens the patient's condition?” Catherine was both shocked and furious, wishing she could slap Finnian to death.
- “No, I understand my mother's condition very well. It's just a case of brain atrophy and a blood clot pressing on her brain vessels. The situation isn't particularly severe, I'm confident I can cure her,” Finnian said calmly.
- “You're saying you can cure her? Did I hear you right?” Catherine's jaw nearly dropped. It was as if she had heard the world's funniest joke, and she laughed out of sheer disbelief. “The chances of curing someone in a vegetative state are even lower than winning the lottery! Across the entire country, even the best traditional doctors in Jacaster wouldn't dare to guarantee a complete cure. And yet, you, who have only studied the basics of traditional medicine for a few years, have the audacity to claim you can cure it? Have your medical skills reached an unparalleled pinnacle already?”
- “Close enough.” Finnian nodded. During his time in Dragon Team, he had performed countless miracles with his medical skills. He dared not claim that his medical expertise was the best in the world, but he suspected there were few who could surpass him.
- “You're simply unreasonable!” Catherine was infuriated. She had seen shameless people, but never someone as shameless as Finnian. “I warn you, the head is one of the most vital parts of the human body. A slight mishap could be fatal. If you don't want the patient to be in any danger, quickly remove all that mess from her head!”
- Catherine spoke as she reached out to remove the silver needle from Jennifer's head.
- Finnian was greatly alarmed. His Mystic Heaven Sixteen Needles technique relied on controlling the needles with his energy, and it required a special method to remove them. If they were carelessly pulled out, not only would they lose their effectiveness, but it could even potentially worsen the patient's condition. Therefore, he couldn't possibly allow Catherine to interfere. In a hurry, he grabbed Catherine's wrist and pulled forcefully, trying to pull her away.
- That caught Catherine completely off guard. She slipped and fell right into Finnian's arms.
- A strong masculine scent wafted over instantly. Finnian's chest was firm and warm. In fact, it felt incredibly reassuring.
- Regaining her senses, Catherine's pretty face flushed with a deep blush, a mix of embarrassment and anger. This was the first time she had such intimate contact with the opposite sex since she was a child. What was even more vexing was that she didn't seem to dislike it.
