Chapter 6
- VICTORIA
- I didn't leave immediately, I waited around because I still had some issues I wanted to discuss with Samson.
- In a few minutes, Samson shook hands with Ben before he left. Now, it was just the both of us in his exotic office.
- Hesitantly, I cleared my throat and I began, “When is the wedding?”
- “Two weeks from now, it is going to be a small one just for us to make known our vows. Mainly, to fulfill all righteousness, you know.” He said, while he walked back to his table.
- My heart leapt for joy, two weeks was kinda enough time for me to spend time with my mom and care for her. I also needed to plan for my son.
- “Or,” He spoke up, interrupting my thoughts. “Do you have anything else in mind? You are open to speak up though.”
- “How about three weeks? I guess that would be more suitable for me.” I replied, silently hoping it would suit us both.
- “There is no problem then. You don't have to stress on anything, everything about the wedding will be taken care of.” He said, picking up the file that had been placed on his table.
- “Alright,” I said, as I tried to avoid his gaze.
- “Look, Victoria, I just want you to be comfortable with this whole arrangement.”
- “I should get going.” I said as I stood up.
- Samson nodded. “Of course,” he said, not taking his eyes off the file even for a minute.
- “Ohh, must be so important,” I whispered.
- Smoothing my dress with my palms, I took long strides to the door, opened it and left.
- ************
- “Victoria!” Brianna exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise. “Why didn't you talk to me about this whole plan before going along with it?”
- I had just told my friend Brianna about the contract marriage I signed with Samson and she hardly believed it. I expected it though.
- “So, this is the reason he got close to you, to use you to unlock his inheritance or is this a joke?” Brianna was now talking furiously.
- “But I am just helping him and he is helping me too.” I stated, trying to calm her fire.
- “How is he helping you?”
- “Haha,” I laughed. “It seems you only picked up the part where I said I was marrying him to help unlock his inheritance.” I added.
- “Just get on with it already and tell me how this marriage would be of any benefit to you.” She spoke hurriedly.
- “Remember, the Six hundred thousand dollars I mentioned?” I asked while she nodded.
- “Uhmm, that's something that would go a long way for my mother and son. Bree, it's been too hard for us. I need to take care of my mom's hospital bills. I mean, come on, I need to refill her medication and funny enough, this medication has been finished for over a month now.” I said with a shaky voice.
- “What the hell? How come I do not know about your mom's medication running out? Are you for real? You know, I would have refilled those medications. What the fuck is wrong with you, Vee?” Brianna scolded me, her brows coming together in a frown.
- “No, no, no,” I shook my head vehemently. “I can't keep running to you for everything. If I kept doing that, then when would it all end?”
- “Look,” I said, drawing closer to Brianna on her couch which was sleek, constructed with high Italian leather. Indeed, I and Ace were always comfortable anytime we visited Brianna and her husband.
- They didn't have a child yet, as they had been trying for one for over four years of her marriage. Ace had won the hearts of her and her husband, they provided anything and everything for him and always wished they would spend more time with them.
- Bringing her hands together, I cupped her already clasped hands with mine.
- “I think this guy is nice and I believe he would treat me excellently in the marriage. Don't just worry about it,” I said, bringing my fingers to her face, I pinched her cheeks playfully.
- “Of course, he needs to treat you well, else I'd really fuck him up.” She said, sternly.
- I chuckled.
- “Don't laugh!” She shot the words like an arrow at me. “I meant what I said, I can't have any man shitting you around ever again.”
- “I didn't laugh, Bree, I just chuckled.” I said, winking at her, as I knew how much she hated being grammarly corrected.
- “Whatever,” She said, accepting defeat but with a deep frown on her face.
- “Relax, Brianna,” I told her as she sipped from the long glass of wine she had placed on the table.
- “So, tell me,” She adjusted on her seat, ready for some gists.
- “But, I must tell you the truth,” I said, a sudden shadow of anxiety fell over my face. “I'm kinda nervous about this whole thing.”
- “Huh, do you have second thoughts? It's okay if you don't want to go through with it, I'm always here for you, please.” Bree said softly, her eyes shining with reassurance and concern.
- I sighed nervously. “No, that's not the thing here. Being tangled up in marriage and living with a man. I know he has been my friend for quite some time but it suddenly feels awkward maybe because I haven't known him long enough to even marry or live with him as a wife.”
- “Ohh, I understand what you are trying to say, Vee but remember, the most important thing here is that you are doing it for your mom and son. Their future will be secured and in a few years you will get out of the alliance.”
- I nodded, my face still downcast. “Samson though, he actually gave me this really cold vibe while I was at his office today. I don't know if he suddenly realised that I'm not good for marriage.”
- “Don't think that way, it could have been other things. I mean, have you seen you? You are beautiful, a nice and kind young lady. You are a dream for every good man, don't ever think less of yourself.”
- I smiled, my eyes lighting up with hope. “This is why I am proud to be your friend.”
- “Haha,” She lau
- ghed. “But your man, though, is rich and handsome.” She admitted.
- “How about your mom? Does she know yet?” She asked.
- Suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat.
