Chapter 1

  • Bethany
  • I shouldn’t have left the house. It was a bad idea and I knew from the moment I got in the car that I should go back home but I promised Sissy that I would go out and mingle. The only problem is that right now, I was inside a very full clubhouse with people everywhere and I still felt alone and out of place.
  • “I shouldn’t have come here.”
  • I muttered to myself. It was useless coming outside. It won’t help me get my acts together and create the characters that my agent wanted. She said and I quote “Your characters lack emotions. You should go out and be with people, that way you will find some new emotions.”
  • How did I ever think that would work? Things were going horribly, the people that came near me walked away when they saw how uninterested I was. Sissy didn’t just want me to go out, she wanted me to get laid too. She asked me. “When was the last time you got some.”
  • I couldn’t remember so I just shrugged my shoulders. Honestly, this was the first time I was leaving the house this year and it was already July. I don’t like people enough to be out and about around people. I live in the worlds that I create.
  • I live for my characters. I live for writing. For the past three years, writing has been the only thing that worked for me. A failed marriage, a failed career, almost dying from cancer and somehow making it. Yeah, I have lived it all and writing was the only thing that got me going after my life practically ended.
  • I shook the sad thoughts off and got off the chair that I had been seated in. It was clear that being around people wasn’t going to help me so I may as well just go back home and try to reconnect with my characters again.
  • Find that missing piece and get back to being flawless. Create characters that carry emotions like the ones I wrote about three years ago, heck even the ones I wrote a few months ago. I navigated my way through the crowd, doing my best to avoid the heavily drunk people grinding themselves together and having the fun time of their lives.
  • As I got to the end of the room, about to make my way out of the entrance, I suddenly got pushed by someone and struggled to hold myself steady but failed. I prepared myself to fall face down inside the club but was surprised when someone caught me mid-air. The masculine smell of my savior filled my nostrils and clouded my head.
  • I swallowed and tried to get off his arms as soon as I could stand and froze when he spoke.
  • “Watch where you are going, beautiful.”
  • His voice… his voice sent a shiver through my body, I almost fell back down when he spoke. His voice, hello? I could literally melt from hearing his voice. Now I didn’t want to look at his face because with a voice like that, I was certain he would look hot.
  • “I am sorry, I wasn’t watching,”
  • I said and bowed politely without looking his way, the music that stopped started again and the club became loud. I turned and started walking away without looking at the man who had caught me. My heart was beating fast as I walked the short distance to where I had parked my car.
  • I was about to open my car when I felt someone running towards me. I turned and stopped dead when I saw who it was. No, I didn’t know him as I hadn’t met him before but for some reason, I knew who he was. The one who caught me a few minutes ago.
  • “Hey, you left this behind.”
  • That voice. It did things to me, things I rather not think about. How can hearing his voice make me react like some horny teenager.
  • “Thank you.”
  • I managed to say and reached for my purse that he stretched out to me. I did my best to avoid his face. He snatched his hand back when I tried to collect the purse and I was forced to look at his face. My breath caught in my throat and for a moment, I lost the ability to breathe.
  • He was, I couldn’t describe him with words. His face was like one of those Greek god kind of gorgeous male leads I write about in my books. But he looked way better than any male lead I have ever described. I swallowed again and avoided his eyes.
  • “Can I have it? Thank you for bringing it to me.”
  • I said politely.
  • “I can’t just give it up like that. I have to get something in return.”
  • He said, I looked at him and looked away immediately, I couldn’t remember the last time a man made me feel this way. To be fair, I didn’t leave my house much, and the only men who made me feel things were the characters I wrote about.
  • “What do you want from me?”
  • I asked, he might be a hottie with the body of a god but he was still a stranger and I wasn’t really good at talking to strangers.
  • “Your beautiful name and I will like it if you look at me for more than a few seconds.”
  • He requested. Was he flirting with me or was I just out of touch? It has to be, the last time I had this kind of close contact with a man was with my doctor who declared me cancer-free. We had a little celebration together because he helped me through a hard time.
  • Too bad we couldn’t be more because he had no interest in me or any woman for that matter. I smiled when I remembered my face when I found out he was into men.
  • “Oh, she smiles, so pretty too.”
  • His voice brought me back to the present. I shook my head and snatched my purse from him.
  • “Thank you for this.”
  • I said and opened my car, I got in and was shocked to see that he had gotten in too.
  • “You can’t be inside my car.”
  • I let out, now he was acting weird. I couldn’t just give him a pass just because he was good-looking.”
  • “I just want to know your name,”
  • He said, flashing me a flirting smile. I hated how my body reacted to his smile. I shook my head again to clear my thoughts and decided to save myself.
  • “My name is Bethany. Now can you leave?”
  • I requested.
  • Bethany, Beth, Thany, Bethy.”
  • He said my name in different ways, just hearing him say my name out loud made me hot inside. I must be going crazy, that has to be it.
  • “You have such a beautiful name. Perfect for your beautiful face. Here I was so close to not coming today, I am glad that I did. I got to meet a damsel.”
  • I should feel disgusted. I mean, it was what guys usually say to get women to fall all over them but for some reason, his words didn’t disgust or irritate me. It actually made me hot and made my insides tingle. Must be because I haven’t had a man give me attention for a long time now.
  • “Okay, that’s being said, can you get out? I want to go home.”
  • I let out. I wasn’t irritated nor was I uncomfortable even though I just met him. He had an aura around him and I could sense that I wasn’t in any danger around him but that doesn’t mean I should let my guards down.
  • “I should, I should walk away and leave you alone but I can’t.”
  • Now he was being straightforward, again, that should have made me come to my senses but it didn’t. It only made the heat that was already inside of me increase.
  • I suddenly felt hot even though the weather was a little chilly. It felt like a thousand butterflies were released inside my stomach. I tried to shake it off but the more I tried, the harder it became.
  • To make things worse for me, the reason for my present situation did not attempt to leave. He in fact reached for my hand instead of him to leave. I felt like I had been burnt where he touched and that made me snatch my hand away.
  • “What are you doing to me?”
  • I asked as my whole body shivered from just a small contact with him. It was too much.
  • “You feel it too, don’t you?”
  • He whispered in that voice that did things to me. He reached out and caressed my face. I inhaled deeply, holding my breath as his rough palms traced my face. I didn’t know when I closed my eyes. I felt him lean in.
  • I knew he was going to kiss me and that I should stop him but I didn’t. It was as if I was frozen in time. It took forever but soon; he took my lips in a kiss that started soft and tender but soon became something else.
  • It was as if something snapped inside of me and all the pent-up energy came bursting out. Before I knew what was going on, I was already straddling him. His arms were around my waist and fondling my ass as we made out in an uncomfortable position inside my car.
  • If my legs hadn’t started to cramp, I might not have gotten back my sense. Heck, even after I pulled away, I still wasn’t back to my senses because if I had, I wouldn’t have said the next thing I said to him.
  • “Want to go home with me? My house isn’t far from here.”
  • I whispered even though I knew just how much of a bad idea it was to invite a stranger who I met a few minutes ago to the house where I stayed alone. I didn’t have time to take my words back because he pulled me in for another intense kissing session that cleared all the doubts that formed in my mind.
  • For tonight, my senses were far gone and all I had left was my raging horniness.
  • “Only if you let me drive.”
  • He said when he pulled away from the kiss. At this point, I was far too gone to even think straight, he could have asked for my banknote and passcode to my cards and I would have given them to him willingly.
  • I don’t know how he did it but he moved to the driver seat and dropped me off in the passenger seat. He helped me with the seatbelt which I was grateful for because I still couldn’t function properly after the intense kiss we just shared.
  • I managed to show him the directions to my apartment and immediately the door closed behind us, we were on each other. Our clothes came off and soon, we were on each other like old-time lovers.
  • I could easily say that it was the best night of my life. We had sex more than four times the whole night and each time, it felt like it was the first time.
  • I finally fell asleep at about four am in the morning with his arms wrapped around me but when I opened my eyes later, I was alone in the room. I looked around to see if he left a note or anything behind but I found nothing. I then realized that I didn’t know anything about this guy. Not even his name.
