Chapter 6 Confrontation

  • Jeremy stood outside the hospital waiting for Ariel to show up. His heart was beating wildly in his chest. Now that it was time, he was feeling a little nervous because why not?
  • It was not everyday you get asked by a billionaire to marry you, and for a man, it was rarer.
  • He wondered what their marriage arrangements would be like. Yes, he knew about the car and house, but that was not what he was concerned about for some reason, even though it would be great help for him and his family. He was more interested in their arrangement.
  • Clearly it wasn't a proposal of love, at least he would rather not think so, He barely knew the chick, they'd gone to the same high school together, but that was it. They'd barely said a hundred words to each other all through high school, so it didn't make any sense for it to be.
  • Was her family pressuring her for marriage? That seemed to be the only reasonable answer, but she wasn't that old, she was maybe in her late twenties. There was still plenty of time to get married.
  • Whatever the case was, it still gave him butterflies for some reason he couldn't wrap his head around.
  • He took in a deep breath and checked the time. She should have been here by now, she had said on the phone that she'd be here in twenty, but it had been twenty-five minutes already, possibly she was running late, most likely traffic.
  • He had half the mind to go back inside the hospital. His mother had been taken to the emergency unit a moment ago for treatment and His sister was with her. He should have been there too, but he had to get married soon.
  • What an odd thing to say. The words were almost laughable.
  • Had to get married soon. Never thought he'd use a phrase like that, like it was some kind of chore to get over.
  • “Hey you there!” A thick, menacing voice called out to him, dragging him out of his whirlwind of thoughts.
  • Jeremy glanced towards the direction of the voice and was shocked at the crowd coming towards him. There were about four big men, ripped and dangerous looking, wearing clothes that most certainly did not belong to law-abiding citizens of a nation. In front of the men was his ex-girlfriend leading them.
  • He turned fully, confused as to what the hell was going on.
  • “This is him?” One of the bigger guys asked when they got closer to Jeremy.
  • My ex-girlfriend nodded. “Yes, it's him.”
  • “What is the meaning of this?” He looked over to Stephanie.
  • “It's pay back.” She said with a self-righteous smirk.
  • “Yes little man, my little cousin here says you owe her some money.”
  • “I don't know what you are talking about. I don't owe her a dime.”
  • “That's not what she said, and I am more inclined to believe her words more than that of a stranger.” He said as he got all up in his face.
  • Closer now, his could see his blood-shot eyes and scars decorating his face. He reeked of alcohol and pot. He had the urge to puke his guts out at the stench of him.
  • “You are in my space, young man.” He said back to him, refusing to back down, although he was a little scared.
  • He began to laugh, showing off his yellow teeth, and Jeremy cringed internally.
  • Did he just not participate in any form of hygienic activities?
  • “You really have a sharp tongue, don't ya?”
  • He smirked and immediately grabbed Jeremy by my shirt.
  • “Now listen here, boy.” He spat, his face now contoured into an ugly grimace.
  • “My little cousin here wants her money back, and she wants it now. So it's either you pay up or get beaten to an inch of your life, and then pay up.”
  • “Fuck you and fuck her. I don't owe that silly bitch a dime.” I spat, my anger getting the best of me. He couldn't believe, after everything she'd done, she had the audacity to send thugs after him.
  • He didn't have time to blink before the yellow-tooth bald beaded fool punched him.
  • “You were saying?” He gritted.
  • “Exactly what I had said earlier. I don't owe her any money.” He felt liquid trickle down his nose and knew it was probably blood.
  • “Tough guy, huh?" He said in a mocking tone, looking at his friend for validation. Jeremy took the opportunity to punch him, causing his grip to loosen.
  • He took that opportunity to separate himself from him, the disgusting man turned around and tried to land a punch, but Jeremy was too fast.
  • He punched his nose and he began to bleed.
  • He paused and touched his broken nose.
  • “That was a huge mistake, boy.” He seethed, and before Jeremy could blink, the disgusting man and his other men were on him, beating the shit out of him.
  • Jeremy tried his hardest to fight back, but it was no use, there were too many of them, and they weren't trying to give him any room anyway.
  • He could hear his ex-girlfriend laughing as the men continued their assault.
  • “What the hell is going on here?” Ariel's voice sounded out of nowhere.
  • “Who the fuck are you?” One of his ex girlfriend's men barked.
  • “Someone you are going to wish you didn't mess with.” She said calmly.
  • “Gary get them.” She said.
  • The beatings finally stopped, and Jeremy managed to look up, and he saw a few other men he assumed came with Ariel beating up the men who had come with his ex-girlfriend.
  • “Are you alright?” Ariel walked towards him, helping him up.
  • “Yeah, I'm fine, thank you.”
  • “Is this the bitch you are married to?” Stephanie yelled from behind him.
  • Ariel's gaze narrowed at her words, and she let go of Jeremy after making sure he was okay.
  • She took measured steps towards Stephanie and smacked her across the face.
