Chapter 7
- Chapter 7
- The cab that had carried Daniel and Victor came to a halt in front of a big black gate and they stepped out. After settling the driver, they went inside.
- The compound was filled with cars; Daniel looked around and felt something inside of him telling him not to go further. He halted, “Victor, I don't want to go; please, let's go back; this party isn't meant for poor people like us.”
- “Oh, come on, Daniel. Stop belittling yourself this way.” Victor waved his hand in dismissal. “We aren't going to do anything here. Just have a glimpse of everything, then go back.”
- He dragged Daniel's hand, taking him inside. And if Daniel was, to be honest, he saw a smirk on Victor's lips.
- The hall was filled with familiar faces as Daniel looked around, recognizing everyone as his fellow students in the same 300 level. Every one of them was all the people who were always mocking and making fun of him for being poor, except for Victor, who had always stood by his side.
- Everyone had already formed a circle leaving just two persons inside of it. “It seems like he is already proposing to her,” Daniel mumbled, walking closer to see things for himself.
- No one had taken notice of his presence yet since everyone was chanting, “Say yes, say yes, say yes.” The unison was going in one accord.
- Inside the circle, a young man was kneeling in front of a lady with a golden ring in his hand, his face raised, looking at the lady. This was Orval Morris, the rich arrogant campus guy.
- “Kathie, please, don't say no to me. I promise to give you the best life as you deserve. I'll lavish my money on you as well.” Morris said, “Please, be my girlfriend, will you?” He stretched out the ring.
- Meanwhile, as Daniel heard the name, his heart raced faster, and his eyes widened a bit. “Kathie?” He mumbled, trying not to believe it was his girlfriend, Kathie Karol.
- He started squeezing himself through the crowd to confirm his doubt, “Daniel, where are you going to?” Victor called his voice barely above the murmuring in the atmosphere.
- But before he could rush after him, Daniel had already made his way forward.
- “I love you very much, Kathie, please, don't say no to me,” Morris said again. He was a wealthy guy from a rich family that every lady chased after so it was certain that this lady wouldn't decline his proposal.
- The lady smiled widely, “Yes, I will be….” Before she could finish her words, a voice echoed, reverberating throughout the whole place and causing everyone to turn in a frown, wondering who dared to interrupt the incident.
- “Kathie Karol?” Daniel's voice echoed, overshadowing every other sound. A hint of confusion and surprise etched on his face as he stared at what seemed to be daydreaming.
- He had secretly prayed that it wouldn't be what he had thought before approaching the scene. But to his heartbreak, it was his girlfriend, the one who had already bought a silver necklace for– Kathie Karol.
- Kathie's and Morris’ gazes landed on him. A hint of anger and embarrassment flashed through Kathie's eyes while Morris was filled with anger as he stood up with his fist clenched and face tightened.
- Morris stared at Daniel, his face blasting with fury, “Hey, you wretched popular campus guy, Daniel Hovsep, who permitted you into this place? And how dare you shout my girlfriend's name like that? Has poverty blinded your eyes not to see that this place isn't for people like you?”
- His words cut through Daniel's spine so hard that his blood boiled, and his face turned red, but he approached Kathie instead.
- “What are you doing here with this spoiled rich brat? I know he must have forced you with his influence to do this but don't worry, I'm here now to take you. Come with me, let's get out of here.” He held Kathie's hand, ignoring the disdainful looks that were on him.
- “Just let me go and don't touch me with your filthy hand again!” Kathie jerked her hand out of Daniel's grip.
- Daniel turned, his face plastered with disbelief, “Kathie…..” his voice cracked, his words hanging in his throat.
- “How dare you try to force yourself on her?” Morris yelled, giving Daniel a swift blow.
- Daniel staggered back but regained his composure, he glared at Morris, his face filled with something darker. “What gives you the nerve to hit me? Are you insane?” He rushed forward, delivering hard punches to Morris’ face.
- “You mannerless fool. You think you can lay your filthy hands on me and get away freely?” He kept hitting Morris.
- The people there rushed forward and held Daniel, pulling him away and leaving Morris to spit out in anger.
- “Leave me! Let me go!” Daniel struggled to break free from the people's grip and he was finally freed after several yells and attempts.
- “How dare you come to my house and attack me? I will kill you.” Morris moved forward to attack Daniel but Kathie intervened.
- Morris looked at her unbelievably, “What's this for, Kathie?” He asked.
- “You don't have to waste your time on a stinky person like him.” Kathie coldly responded, embracing Morris tightly.
- Daniel's face burned as if a fire was set on his face. “I now stink to you? After everything I did to you? You have chosen to pay me this way?” His voice dripped with emotion.
- “What is he talking about?” Morris furrowed his eyebrows at Kathie.
- Kathie hesitantly replied, “Don't take whatever he's saying to heart, baby. He's just been sent to destroy this wonderful day. Can't you see it?”
- She stepped forward, her face filled with disdain, “Have we ever had any conversation with each other? And what have you done for me?” She asked Daniel coldly.
- Daniel chuckled bitterly with a frustrated face, “Kathie, why are you pretending like you don't know me? Go ahead and tell everyone that I'm your boyfriend.” He responded, glancing around.
- Bringing out the silver jewelry, he said, “Look here, your birthday is tomorrow and I bought this for you. Tell them we have been dating for the past two years now.”
- “Haha. Look at that. That's the cheapest silver necklace. I heard someone buying it yesterday for $40.” One person exclaimed while laughing aloud.
- “No wonder he's the popular broke campus guy. Haha. A cheap necklace for the popular beauty lady.”
- Hearing the murmuring, Kathie was overwhelmed with rage. She grabbed the necklace, throwing it to the floor with all her strength which caused it to shatter into tiny pieces, “Get out of my house now!”
- Morris, on the other hand, was looking confused. Kathie had told him about her birthday being tomorrow then how did this wretched guy know it?
- “Maybe, he's telling the truth but I mustn't let him dare make any move. He doesn't deserve Kathie.” He shook off the thought, stepping forward. “Whatever relationship you had with her is over; I, Orval Morris, the rich guy, want her to be my girlfriend, and so it must be!”
