Chapter 44
- SEAN
- The sound of rain is loud against the windows of my home office, relentless in the way it slaps against glass and pours off the roof. I don't know what brought about the rain, but it's a welcomed change. I lean back into my seat and rub my temple, the glow from the laptop screen casting a pale light across the dark room. The electricity has gone out. Again. Second time tonight. The backup generator should’ve kicked in, but it didn’t. Not immediately.
- I don’t need to check what the problem is. Dwight will already be handling it. That’s what second-in-commands are for. One less thing for me to worry about. And I swear, on most days, I'm so grateful to have him. Of course, if I tell him that, he's going to stare at me like I'm crazy. Forget that, I'm going to stare at myself like I'm crazy.
