Chapter 2 Intense Itch

  • A nurse was seen running towards them nervously, “Oh no! Oh no!”
  • Liu Nian frowned, “What happened?”
  • “Dr. Liu, someone is coming here for you and he seemed very angry. You should better hide lest he sees you. If that happens, I don’t know what will become of you!”
  • “Is it a medical dispute?” Liu Nian asked cautiously.
  • She had been working with Huahai Hospital for quite some time and there was not a single complaint lodged against her, let alone a medical dispute. All her patients were cared for and treated in a professional manner with successful recovery. Her display case for the brocade flags she had received over the years was running out of space.
  • Everyone else on the scene were equally shocked at the nurse’s statement. Liu Nian’s medical expertise was without a question exceptional. Her diagnosis and treatment procedures were skillful and precise. So, being involved in a medical dispute was beyond comprehensible.
  • “Yes!” the nurse nodded her head, “It’s the little boy you have treated 2 days ago. His condition had worsened and his family are making a fuss downstairs.”
  • Liu Nian was alarmed, “Impossible! He was only diagnosed with a common skin problem and I have already treated him. As long as he avoids eating the things I’ve told him to, there’s no way for him to suffer a relapse.”
  • Xue Hanhai chimed in, “The kid must have been in contact with irritants and they parents are likely the responsible ones. It’s they who disobeyed your instructions, yet they try to put the blame on us. Don’t worry, Nian. I will not let these troublemakers have their way.”
  • He glanced at Su Qi smugly as he finished speaking, while the latter was just standing there, frowning.
  • Su Qi remembered the boy particularly as not only was present when Liu Nian treated the boy, he also put up his proposed treatment procedure to Liu Nian. As could be expected, she told him off mercilessly without even asking about his reasonings.
  • Liu Nian let out a sigh when she saw Su Qi was fearful of retaliating Xue Hanhai, how could this man be so useless? She thought he would man up and stand up for himself after several humiliations from Xue Hanhai. But from the looks of it now, Su Qi was a lost cause and beyond help.
  • With his head lowered, Su Qi looked like a coward who was backing out and afraid to step up. He failed to see both Liu Nian and Xue Hanhai’s looks of disgust towards him.
  • But in fact, he was focused on the adrenaline rush within his body. Feeling invigorated, he clenched his fist tightly as he thought to himself, It’s back! My vigor and strength… It is all coming back to me now…
  • After putting up an act for 5 whole years to fulfill his family rule, he could finally stop living like a coward. Hmph, that son of a b*tch, Xue Hanhai would be the first get a taste of my sweet revenge.
  • Suppressing his excitement, he raised his head only to find that everyone had already left. He immediately dashed downstairs to where the flurry took place.
  • “I will sue your hospital! Look what you incompetent doctors have done to my child! You can be sure your hospital will be shut down for good!”
  • Su Qi heard a faint scolding as he approached the scene. There, he saw a group of people with a middle-aged man as the lead. He was pointing his fingers at Liu Nian while berating her. Judging by their expensive attire and noble aura, they must come from a well-to-do background.
  • “Sir, please calm down. Dr. Liu will cure your son.”
  • “Cure? Can she? My kid only suffered from a common skin problem when he first consulted her. Look at what became of him now!” The middle-aged man roared as he removed the face mask from his son’s face and the crowd was taken aback by the horrendous sight.
  • The little boy who was about 7 to 8 years old had his face covered in blisters and it was really swollen.
  • “Good heavens! What is this? Could Dr. Liu really have misdiagnosed?”
  • When Liu Nian saw the little boy, terror overtook her face as she exclaimed, “Impossible! He only suffered from common skin disease so I administered him an anti-inflammatory gel. There is no way blister could have developed from that!”
  • Xue Hanhai, who was standing beside her, concurred, “She’s right. That’s impossible. Did the kid go against Dr. Liu’s instructions and come in contact with irritants?”
  • “Nonsense!” the man rebuked angrily, “Do I look like I am someone who couldn’t understand simple instructions? You’d better cure my son today or else you can be prepared to have your medical license suspended. Let me tell you what. My father-in-law is the Director of the Food and Health Bureau. If this doesn’t get resolved, you can be sure as hell I’m going to finish you off!”
  • “What? The Director of the Food and Health Bureau? We are doomed!”
  • Everyone got petrified upon hearing from the man. They knew very well that as a private hospital, they were in the mercy of the Food and Health Bureau. If they failed to cure the little boy today, there was a high chance the hospital would be shut down.
  • Liu Nian tried to calm the man down as she said in a distress, “Calm down, sir. I will cure your son.”
  • As soon as she finished her words, she lifted her arms and was prepared to give the little boy an injection. Emerging from the crowd, Su Qi could no longer stand idly by as he walked over and advised her against it, “The jab won’t work and it will only worsen the kid’s condition.”
  • Liu Nian glared at him furiously as she retorted, “What would you know, Su Qi? Get out of the way!”
  • The crowd sneered in disdain as they looked at Su Qi making a fool out of himself.
  • Xue Hanhai chimed in, “She’s right. What would a good-for-nothing like you know about medicine, huh? Get lost!”
  • Ignoring their mockery, Su Qi gazed at Liu Nian intently, “Trust me.”
  • She turned to look at him and the moment their eyes met, it sent a tremor through her heart. There was determination in his eyes, giving her an inexplicable sense of security.
  • Xue Hanhai seethed in anger as he pushed Su Qi away hard before gently saying to Liu Nian, “Nian, don’t get deceived by him. What does he know about medicine? All he wants is to get you in trouble.”
  • Then he turned his back and told the man, “Sir, I’m the Chief of Dermatology, Xue Hanhai. Please leave your child to me. I’ll make sure he is cured.”
  • Sounding confident and lofty while presenting himself, he appeared to be a promising young man whose capability must be extraordinary to have acquired the position of the Chief at such a young age. This, in comparison to Su Qi, who appeared to be a useless man living off his wife; He was without a doubt, heaps better.
  • Upon hearing that he was the chief, the middle-aged man’s expression relaxed slightly as he said, “That’s good. I’ll trust you guys for just this one last time. As long as you can cure my son, I will put this off behind me. But if you’re unable to cure him, I’ll make sure the hospital is shut down for good!”
  • “Trust me, he will recover in no time,” Xue Hanhai brimmed with confidence.
  • His family members were assured by his show of confidence as they thought to themselves, since he is the chief, his medical skills must be superior.
  • Xue Hanhai observed the little boy carefully and he concluded shortly after with a smile, “I can confirm it’s a common case of chickenpox. This is only a minor issue. I can cure him in no time.”
  • The crowd heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing the chief’s diagnosis. All except for one person; Su Qi shook his head helplessly and thought to himself, How in the world did Xue Hanhai ascend to the position of chief with such mediocre medical skills?
  • With just a quick glance, Su Qi could deduce that it was definitely something more than just a common case of chickenpox. He was the only person who could cure him in this hospital.
  • Immediately after his conclusion, Xue Hanhai gave the little boy an injection, “This is the best drug we have at the hospital. It’s especially effective on chickenpox. He will recover completely within two days.”
  • “That’s great. Thank you, Chief!” the man was happy to hear the news.
  • One of the nurses replied admiringly, “The Chief’s expertise is remarkable indeed!”
  • The crowd was fawning on him, including Liu Nian, who looked at him with gratitude gleamed in her eyes.
  • It was right at this moment that the little boy screamed hysterically, “Ahhhhhh…! It’s so itchy! Help me! Help!”
  • The boy was squirming on the ground in agony and patches of blisters were seen developed in his body with clear aggravation of his condition. He could not help but scratch the affected areas and while doing so, the blisters popped, giving off an unpleasant stench.
  • The crowd was stunned at the dramatic turn of events.
  • Meanwhile, the middle-aged man instantly flared up and slapped Xue Hanhai hard on his face, “What have you done to my son?!”
  • Xue Hanhai’s spectacles came falling to the ground from the blow and his mouth agape in disbelief, “Impossible! How can this be…”
  • “You quacks! Mark my words, you will definitely suffer from the consequences!” The man immediately took out his mobile phone and punched in a string of numbers to make a call.
  • At this time, someone stepped forward and declared, “I can cure your son.”
