Chapter 5 In Your Face

  • The turn of events left everyone, including Liu Nian bewildered as they stared at Su Qi with their mouth agape, not knowing how to react.
  • Needless to say, Xue Hanhai must be feeling awful at the sight. Not only did he fail to make an ass out of Su Qi, he had previously made 3 absurd bets which he must now fulfill.
  • “Daddy, I’m starving. Can I please get something to eat?” said the little boy with his stomach growling.
  • Upon hearing this, the man’s eyes welled up in tears as he pulled the boy into his arms and cheered, “This is fantastic, Bao. You’re finally cured. I am so happy!”
  • Ever since his son contracted this strange disease, he hadn’t been able to eat a lot. He had only eaten a little porridge which could last him for the entire week. As a result, he had lost his weight tremendously. When Liang Hongguo came back from overseas and saw his son in this state, he broke down in despair.
  • In actuality, Liang Hongguo had a highly successful career and amassed a great wealth. However, none of these was comparable to his dearest boy. The little boy was his one and only son and it goes without saying that his son meant the world to him. When he learnt that his son’s condition deteriorated after seeking treatment at Huahai Hospital, he was furious and dashed here right away.
  • If there were any mishaps in the treatment for his son, he would make sure the entire hospital bear the consequences.
  • Now that his son his son was asking for food, he was happy beyond words and couldn’t help but shed happy tears.
  • He stood up and held Su Qi’s hand in gratitude, “You are a true medical prodigy! I couldn’t thank you enough for curing my son! All these doctors here at Hua Hai could not be compared to you. I hope you would forgive me for my rude attitude earlier.”
  • There was a drastic change in his attitude towards Su Qi.
  • Su Qi smiled, “Don’t mention it, Mr. Liang. I’m not as good as you deemed me to be. I just happened to have read a journal similar to your son’s case, so it was pure luck. Regarding the incident at Hua Hai, I hope you could let the matter drop.”
  • “Yes, definitely. Now that my son has recovered, naturally, I will let Hua Hai off the hook,” said Liang Hongguo, “Oh right, doctor. Is my son fully recovered? Is there anything I should take note of?”
  • Su Qi smiled as he replied, “Right. Do make sure he doesn’t carry jade anymore and refrain from going to places with intense Yin energy. Make sure to go under the sun more often to absorb the Yang energy. You should do that for 2 years, and he’ll make a full recovery.”
  • In reality, the little boy was fine now and he would be fine as long as he didn’t carry the jade with him anymore. In Su Qi’s treatment earlier, he had expelled all of the Yin energy in his body but to just to be sure, he had advised them to do so.
  • “Okay. I’ll take note of this. Doctor, here’s my name card. I hold sway in Hua County and if you need help, do give me a call.”
  • It was a premium card with his name embossed with gold finishing on it. From the looks of it, Liang Hongguo seemed to be a person of prominence. After placing the name card in his pocket, Su Qi turned to glance at Xue Hanhai as he stood by the side with an awful look on his face, “So, my part’s done. Time for you to perform your deal?”
  • The crowd turned to look at Xue Hanhai in anticipation immediately, “Oh, right! Chief Xue made a bet with Su Qi earlier. Now that Su Qi’s treatment did the trick, Chief Xue has to admit defeat. Not only does he have to greet Su Qi as his grandfather a hundred times, he also had to quit his job. Worse still, he had to swallow the disgusting phlegm the little boy coughed out earlier…”
  • With just a quick look at the greenish phlegm, he could feel his stomach churning.
  • Xue Hanhai had clearly made the wrong move by being overconfident on his assumption that Su Qi would fail for sure.
  • Seeing that he remained silent, Su Qi jeered, “What’s the matter? Are you thinking of ways to weasel out of it?”
  • Su Qi felt an immense gratification when he saw the awful expression on Xue Hanhai’s face. He was not alone, though, as plenty in the room were reveling in his predicament. Xue Hanhai had a lousy personality, and he would usually strut around at the hospital, giving his subordinates a hard time. Owing to his status as a department chief, even if they disliked him, no one dared to show it. So, of course they would take pleasure in his misfortunes.
  • “This time, not only did Chief Xue not get what he wanted but he had hurt himself in the process. He was too cocky to have look down on Su Qi.”
  • “Exactly! Look at his expression now. If I were him, I’d rather die.”
  • “Precisely. He has to greet Su Qi as his grandfather a hundred times and quit his job. The worst thing is, he has to swallow the phlegm. Eww.”
  • “I’m so glad to have live to see this!”
  • When Xue Hanhai heard the mocking, his expression became nastier.
  • “Su Qi, this doesn’t count!” Xue Hanhai had been thinking hard on how to backtrack on his bets.
  • Su Qi was completely unsurprised by his words, “Oh? What do you mean by it doesn’t count?”
  • Xue Hanhai tried to rationalized his excuse, “You can’t consider this as curing a patient. You merely alleviate the patient’s condition temporarily! Yes, that’s it!”
  • He clung onto the single excuse he had and continued debating in an attempt to weasel out of his bets.
  • Liang Hongguo could no longer stand the sight of him as he asked Su Qi, “Bro, do you want me to teach him a lesson?”
  • On hearing this, Xue Hanhai instantly retreated his steps fearfully.
  • After Su Qi nodded his head and Liang Hongguo eyed the two bodyguards behind him. They caught the signal and grabbed Xue Hanhai by his arms.
  • “What are you doing? Let me go! I’ll call the cops if you don’t!” in a panic, Xue Hanhai yelled shrilly.
  • “That’s enough!” Liu Nian’s voice rang as she stared at Su Qi and said, “Just move on from it. Don’t go overboard.”
  • Su Qi felt yet another tinge in his heart. Gazing at Liu Nian, he said, “He humiliated me first. Didn’t you see that?”
  • Liu Nian furrowed her brows, “So what? You have already won. Do you honestly want him to swallow the phlegm? Let him go.”
  • “Looks like it’s true. Dr. Liu and Xue Hanhai are having an affair.”
  • “Su Qi is simply too pitiful to be cuckolded by his wife in public.”
  • “It can’t be helped since Su Qi himself is useless. Other than having a slight edge over Chief Xue in terms of height, what else is good about him?
  • The people around them started gossiping in hushed tones. Even Liang Hongguo overheard them and felt a little sorry for Su Qi.
  • Clenching his fists tight, he felt angry and deeply disappointed in his wife’s insistence to gloss over the matter. When the man humiliated him, she did not say a word to back him up. But when it came to Xue Hanhai, she stepped up and demanded he let the former off the hook.
  • The thing was, he was her husband no matter he was a loser or not. He could disregard the treatment he received from everyone else, but Liu Nian’s behavior truly hurt him.
