Chapter 26 The Aftermath

• Maverick's POV
• The door closed behind me with a soft click, but it might as well have been a slam for how loud it echoed in my chest.
• I stood there for a moment, just staring at the wood grain. My lips were still warm, and my breath was still very much uneven. I could feel the weight of Averin's hands where they had gripped my shirt, the heat of his body pressed against mine, and the sudden, sharp cold that had come the second he pulled away.
