• Meilei walked barefoot across the beach, her toes sinking into the sand, still warm from the day's sun. Tucking her hair behind her ears to catch the wind-blown flyaways as she listened to the gentle sway of the tide coming in. She felt more peace than she had in a while. The sea had always been healing for her soul, and Suying bringing her here had done her more good than she thought it would.
• It was getting dark even though it wasn't too late, and she was enjoying this breathing space to think. Suying had sent her out to take a walk after Yue fell asleep and told her to take her time, seeing as the trip was almost over. They had been here for two days, and Yue was exhausted after a fun-filled day at the rides and building sandcastles with Suying.
