• Meanwhile, Carlton returned upstairs with a heavy heart as guilt wrapped its cold, suffocating arms around him, and he could feel the weight of his actions bearing down upon him with an unforgiving intensity.
• Accusations gnawed at his conscience and reminded him of the irreversible bad he had done to her, with each memory he had last of her, suspended into an abyss of regret which came from the knowledge of the misery he had caused pain to her.
• He continued to think of the things she had just said, and the anger that was brewing visibly through her for him.
