Chapter 6 Using His Phone?

  • There was an unwritten rule in the culinary world that the chef had the final say in the kitchen.
  • As a matter of fact, it was precisely because of this that Luna had initially agreed to Hayden’s request to fire Christopher. After all, Christopher did work under Hayden and therefore Hayden had the right to. However, she did not expect that there was actually more to this situation than met the eye. As for Tina’s work experience as the captain in the five-star hotel, Luna reckoned she would need to verify it further now.
  • “Ms. Sears, I—”
  • Luna’s voice was not loud, but it exerted a force against Hayden.
  • He opened his mouth as if trying to explain something, but he was immediately interrupted by her again. She said, “Enough. You don’t have to say anymore. After all, the both of you were colleagues who have been working together for three years. There is absolutely no need to step out of bounds, and you should know when to stop. Forget the challenge; let’s not stab people in the back like this.”
  • With that, what Luna said was basically the final nail in the coffin. Indeed, Hayden was the head chef, but Luna had the final say in the entire restaurant after all. Since she had said this, under normal circumstances, no matter how reluctant Hayden was, he would have to give in.
  • That was under normal circumstances, but what if it was different this time?
  • And now, an abnormal circumstance had occurred.
  • “Ms. Sears. I’m afraid I’m going to have to say no to you this time.” It was extremely rare for Hayden to go against Luna. He continued, “You can’t take back your words. I will of course go with what you said for other matters, but today, I will make this bastard crawl under me no matter what!” After saying that, he even glared at Christopher while gritting his teeth.
  • “Oh?”
  • As though she had not expected Hayden to disobey her, Luna squinted coldly at him.
  • Without any emotions, she continued to say calmly, “That means you’re not going to do as I say?”
  • With his head down and shoulders drooped, Hayden remained silent.
  • “Alright,” Luna smirked with her red lips. Her smile was so cold it sent chills down Hayden’s spine.
  • “You better win.” Leaving those words behind, Luna walked back toward the crowd.
  • As a matter of fact, Luna always meant what she said. Hayden had learned of her iron fist the hard way previously. However, this time around, for that bastard Christopher to concede to him, he would go all in!
  • Forcibly suppressing the uneasiness in his chest, Hayden twisted the water pipe while washing his hands and said to Christopher, “Young man, don’t blame me for bullying you. Today, I will bring my A-game—my Winter Dance carving skills!"
  • Christopher wanted to go all out, and Hayden was no different. The warning in Luna’s words was obvious enough. It was one thing if he won, but if he didn’t…
  • “Winter Dance!” Upon hearing what Hayden said, a burst of exclamation erupted from the crowd.
  • ‘Winter Dance’ was said to be one of Hayden's unique skills. Previously, when a great and experienced chef in the culinary industry dined at The Serenade, he commented ‘not bad’ when he saw the ice toad carved by Hayden.
  • One could not underestimate the ‘not bad’ comment as it was not easy to hear those words from the old chef named David Miller.
  • In fact, Hayden had been keeping ‘Winter Dance’ for special situations. It was generally not easily shown to just anyone, and he rarely lost with this skill. Christopher already had little hope of winning when competing knife skills with him. Now that he even brought out his ‘Winter Dance’ skill, it could be said that Christopher had basically no hope of winning.
  • “Hmph!” Hayden snorted. Regardless of whether Christopher knew about the Winter Dance or not, Hayden picked up the ice knife and began carving.
  • Kish! Kish! Kish!
  • From time to time, the sound of blades slashing across the ice surface was heard while ice shavings splashed around. Hayden was quick at what he did. Not long after, the outline of a toad was sketched out by him. Unquestionably, he knew his way around a knife.
  • Seeing that Hayden had already begun, Christopher was still standing by the chopping board without a reaction. Just then, everyone looked up and found that he was actually…
  • Using his phone!
  • What the—!
  • He was really using his phone!
  • “Wow…” The crowd went speechless. What the hell is Christopher doing? Does he know what’s actually happening? How could he still be using his phone? Doesn’t he know that this is imminent and he should start soon?
  • “Did he just give up?” Someone among the crowd suggested softly. Using a phone during a competition—doesn’t that mean he’s given up?
  • “Sigh. Chris…”
  • The crowd no longer had any doubts about how this competition would end.
  • Seeing this, Hayden laughed triumphantly while thinking to himself, Haha! I don’t know where he found the courage to compete with me, but he is basically biting off more than he can chew. Except for overestimating himself, Hayden couldn’t find any other words to describe Christopher’s current situation.
  • Tina, on the other hand, showed a contemptuous expression as well. The more she looked at Christopher, the more she felt that breaking up with him was the right decision. Rather than pinning so much hope on a person like him, it was much better to spend more time thinking of all the different ways she could get Hayden to spend money on her. As soon as this thought crossed her mind, she recalled that two days ago, Chanel had released a new perfume. Should she treat him well tonight, he would definitely not turn her down when she asked him to buy it for her.
  • Meanwhile, among the crowd, Luna knitted her eyebrows slightly upon seeing Christopher’s act. In theory, Christopher certainly couldn’t come close to beating Hayden, but somehow, she had such high hopes for him, as she hoped for a miracle. However, it now seemed that she might have thought too highly of him. How could a mere kitchen porter who had only been washing dishes and cutting potatoes for three years in the kitchen be Hayden’s opponent?
  • Even so, how could Christopher give up so easily?
  • At this point, the only reason he was using his phone was only because of one thing—the Thumbs-Up System.
  • He knew he wouldn’t come close to being Hayden's opponent solely based on his strength, but what if he was able to draw on external forces?
  • Vividly, he could still recall what happened on the bus. For some reason, he believed that this system might bring him a miracle after all.
  • However, he didn’t have many thumbs-ups left after the ‘Strength Bun’ he drew previously—he was now left with 121.
  • After browsing through the Thumbs-Up Online Mall, Christopher found that except for some limited-time effect products such as ‘Strength Bun’, ‘Agility Dumplings’, and so on that required a fewer number of likes, other skill items often required more than 100,000. Christopher knew he did not have enough thumbs-ups to afford them, so he thought, Looks like I can only go with a lucky draw again!
  • The general ‘Fire Skills’, ‘Knife Skills’, ‘Tasting Skills’ and ‘Choosing Skills’ were nothing that Christopher wanted. For instance, with ‘Knife Skills’, the experience scroll only came with a 100 experience score. Putting aside Hayden’s expert cooking skills, this 100 experience score was not going to improve Christopher’s cooking skills by a lot. Therefore, all of his hopes were in the small ‘Other’ area.
