Chapter 15 Let’s Not Play With Knives

  • Indeed!
  • Though he long had a hunch about her identity, it was still shocking to hear it from Scarlett herself. Fortunately, he had mentally prepared himself, or else he would have fainted from the shock.
  • “It’s Master Chef Sparks’ granddaughter.” After calming himself down, the old chef said, “Ms. Sears, I am willing to accept the head chef you employed as my superior. I overthought and I shouldn’t have doubted your choice.”
  • “Chef Bordeaux, what is actually going on?”
  • “Yeah. Why does the name Lawrence Sparks sound familiar?” Anthony Bordeaux already knew who the girl was, but there were some who did not know yet.
  • “Of course it would sound familiar!” Anthony exclaimed with excitement. “Around thirty years ago, Madrila, Askirk and Oschen all participated in The Ultimate Cooking Showdown Competition. Master Chef Sparks was the hero who defeated all the other competitors and made our country proud. How can he not be familiar?”
  • “He is the current generation of the Sparks Family of the North. His family was one of the Four Royal Chefs of the 15th century. How can his name not sound familiar?”
  • “Among the chefs of Madrila, there are not many who are labelled as master chefs. How can you be unfamiliar with him?”
  • “He is the top of the top among us chefs!”
  • To the youngsters, the name ‘Lawrence Sparks’ might sound unfamiliar. However, it was quite the contrary for older people like Anthony. His name carried such a meaning that even laymen who were not in the field would respect him.
  • Back in that time, Lawrence was what one would call a national idol.
  • “Lawrence Sparks?”
  • With Anthony’s explanation, more people started to recall this legendary chef. At once, they started to look at Scarlett in a different perspective. She’s the granddaughter of Lawrence Sparks?
  • And Ms. Sears has brought her here!
  • To be frank, Lawrence hadn’t been heard for quite some time. All people knew was that he was living in Eryshire, and that was it.
  • Nonetheless, there was some media coverage regarding his granddaughter who was also very gifted in cooking. They had even mentioned that she had learned three quarters of his skills. That being said, the media that covered this story was limited, so only people who were really updated about things happening in the cooking field like Anthony knew.
  • Even if she only had half of Lawrence’s skills in cooking, she was already qualified to be the head chef of The Serenade, not to mention three quarters. Hence, Luna’s decision to hire this new head chef was totally justified.
  • On the other hand, Christopher was taken aback. He indeed knew about Lawrence and his very gifted granddaughter because Anthony had mentioned it before. He was surprised when he heard about it back then, and now it left him astonished once again.
  • It was indeed bad to compare too much. Christopher and Scarlett were both in their twenties, and she had the skills of a master chef already, yet he had just gotten promoted to be a line cook. The difference in their levels of talent was almost embarrassing. He could only console himself that he still had the Thumbs-Up System.
  • At this moment, the sharp sound of a clap could be heard, and it successfully attracted everyone’s attention immediately. Luna then said, “Since you all now know Scarlett’s identity, I suppose there are no longer any questions regarding my decision.”
  • “If there’s anything you’re curious about and would like to ask, you can do so in the future since we’ll all be working together. For now, you all can leave except for Christopher.”
  • “I have to stay?” Upon hearing that, he looked confused. However, he did not bother to think much about it as he already had a hunch about what it was about.
  • After the crowd dispersed, the meeting room was left with just Christopher, Scarlett and Luna.
  • Before he could say anything, Scarlett approached him and stared brazenly at him with her sparkly doll eyes. Then, she asked suspiciously, “Are you the one Luna mentioned? Are you the Christopher who knows Dual Wielding?”
  • Just as he expected, Luna had asked him to stay back because of this matter. Hence, Christopher answered, “If there isn’t anyone else who goes by this name in The Serenade, that should be me.”
  • “You know Dual Wielding?” Scarlett asked.
  • Christopher nodded in response.
  • “Do you really know Dual Wielding?”
  • Hearing that, he offered a helpless smile indicating it was indeed true.
  • Disbelief couldn’t be more evident in those big eyes of hers. She then closed the distance between them and sniffed him like a puppy. After grabbing ahold of his arm, she took a look at his left hand, then at his right. She finally let go of him after inspecting him for some time.
  • “Luna, did you make a mistake?” Retreating back to Luna’s side, Scarlett said with suspicion, “This guy must be an amateur chef. How can he possibly know Dual Wielding? I couldn’t catch anything that tells me he’s a highly-skilled chef. Moreover, his hands are fair; they definitely don’t look like hands that have been holding a knife for years. There isn’t even any callus on his purlicue. You must have made a mistake!”
  • “Do you think I won’t recognize the employee of my own restaurant?” Luna chuckled as she saw how serious Scarlett was. Luna added, “There was quite an audience who witnessed him completing the ice carving with dexterity using Dual Wielding yesterday. Moreover, the recording from the competition must be saved in the database.”
  • “Is the recording still available?” Upon hearing that, Scarlett beamed before exclaiming, “Hurry up and find it! I want to watch it!” She truly did not believe that Christopher knew the skill of Dual Wielding.
  • As she couldn’t find another way to convince Scarlett, Luna could only comply with Scarlett’s wishes. After turning on the computer in the meeting room, Luna looked for the recording of interest and played it.
  • It was a recording of less than half an hour, so Scarlett watched it pretty quickly. However, the suspicion displayed on her expression was further enhanced. The Dual Wielding skills that Christopher employed in the video did not seem fake at all. Not to mention, his skills were even at the Legend Level. The truth was shown to her, so she had to believe it.
  • Nevertheless, the impression he gave her as well as the subtle evidence she found on him were all telling Scarlett that he did not possess such a skill.
  • Even if he did, it must have only been for a short while.
  • However, that did not make sense. It wasn’t possible that he could demonstrate Dual Wielding yesterday and lose that skill by today, was it? Something fishy was going on!
  • If Scarlett’s thoughts were known by Christopher, a chill would be running down his spine just about now. This woman was truly scary.
  • The chubby little face of hers was scrunched up at this moment because she was torn.
  • After a moment, she took out a pair of knives from a bag of kitchen tools that she brought here, then held it before Christopher.
  • “We can talk things through!” Obviously, Scarlett’s sudden action had caught Christopher off guard. He helplessly said, “Let’s not play with knives!”
  • “Show me!” Putting the two knives together, she handed it to Christopher before adding, “If you truly learnt the skill of Dual Wielding, show me right now!” She looked dead serious as she said that.
