- Seraphine and Carol were awake before the sun rose.
- "Happy eighteenth birthday, my beautiful Seraphine," Carol said. They were still lying down and had not yet gotten up.
- "Hmmm, it's the first birthday that I will spend by your side, so I'm overjoyed," Seraphine said. She hugged her mother tightly.
