Chapter 26 Unseen Forces
- The fight lasted for almost three hours. We were told the rogues retreated when they realized they were losing, but why they attacked in the first place would always be a mystery. Rogue attacks were common enough, but they were usually smart enough to avoid larger packs. They'd target the smaller ones if they stood a chance of winning, but this time, this time they had no chance.
- I stood there in the silence of the shelter, my back against the cool stone walls, waiting. The seconds stretched out into what felt like hours. There were no more sounds of battle, no more distant screams, or the hurried footfalls of running bodies. Just the deafening silence.
- Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the shelter door creaked open. Alpha Scott appeared at the top of the stairs, stepping down slowly as though the weight of everything that had happened weighed heavily on him. The tension between us was palpable, but I felt a strange relief flood through me. I could finally leave this place.
