Chapter 8

  • “She has no…” Alpha Kyle jerked up immediately and rushed to me. My feet were bleeding so bad, and poisoned.
  • “Rachel? Rachel? Wake up…” He shook me vigorously. I gently opened my weak eyes, and smiled faintly at him.
  • “This is what you’ve always wanted, Kyle. You should be happy that this happened to me. Don’t you… feel satisfied?” I mumbled, and he turned his face away.
  • It was surprising that I could see care and compassion in his eyes. Does he feel sorry for me? How is that possible? He has always wanted me to atone for my father’s actions. There’s no way he’s in regret.
  • “Shut up, Rachel. Do you think this is something to joke around with? You don’t have a wolf, why didn’t you tell me?” He asked anxiously.
  • I coughed slightly, and replied. “Would you have believed me if I had told you? Kyle, we are even now.”
  • “Not even close, Rachel. You’re stuck with me, you can’t leave me.” He snapped at me, and immediately carried me into his arms. Then, he turned to his beta. “Logan, get the pack doctor immediately.”
  • “Yes, Alpha.”
  • With that, he rushed down the hallway. Imelda clenched her fist in annoyance as she watched Alpha Kyle carry me out of the hall.
  • “She’s already 18 years old. Why doesn’t she have a wolf yet? Unless…” She thought within herself.
  • “Isn’t she 18 years old?”
  • “How come she has no wolf?”
  • “She’s an Alpha’s daughter to start with. What could be wrong?”
  • They were already muttering to themselves when Rhoda dismissed everyone, and they walked out of the hall still discussing the news of me not having a wolf despite being 18.
  • Meanwhile, Alpha Kyle dropped me on his bed and Avery rushed to me. Her eyes were already swollen and reddened.
  • “Rachel, you have to be strong. You told me you would never leave me alone. You’re the only sister I have, and I know you’re a fighter. Likewise, you have to fight for your life.” She kept saying these words as she wiped my face.
  • Shortly, the doctor arrived and Avery stepped aside for him to do some checkups on me. After he did that, Kyle rushed to him.
  • “Doctor, how is my slave? Is she going to wake up soon?” He asked worriedly.
  • Shaking his head, the doctor replied. “Alpha, she’s in a terrible condition. Luckily, the wolfs-bane is yet to spread into her vital organs, but she has 50% chances of survival as she has no wolf. She’s basically a human without her wolf.”
  • Avery burst into tears again. She quickly went on her knees, holding on to Kyle’s trouser. “My Alpha, please you have to save Rachel. I don’t want her to die.”
  • “Doctor, she is my slave. My property… I am the only one who can kill her or spare her. She has no right to die when I’m not done with her. You must save her. Rachel Weston, you’re not allowed to die.” Alpha Kyle roared angrily.
  • “It’s okay, Alpha. Even if I can’t guarantee you that she’d survive, I promise to do everything within my powers to revive her, but the rest is up to the Moon Goddess. I’m really stunned that she walked on the poisoned nail up to 10 minutes without a wolf before she passed out.” The doctor calmly replied.
  • “Save her…. She must not die. I’m yet to get my revenge, until then, she has no right to die.” Alpha Kyle ordered.
  • “Yes, Alpha.” The doctor bowed slightly at him before leaving.
  • Staring at me for the last time, Alpha Kyle walked out of the room, leaving Avery with me. He was halfway to the entrance when he met Rhoda.
  • “My Alpha, is what you told the doctor really true? Are you only keeping Rachel because you want her to atone her father’s sin?” She asked.
  • Blinking rapidly, the Alpha swallowed hard. “What other reason do you think I have to keep my enemy’s daughter alive?”
  • “Alpha Kyle, I think you’re lying to yourself. Trust me, I understand what you’re feeling. I know how broken you were when your family died right in your eyes. I also lost my dear husband because of Dane Weston and my daughter is still….. Let’s not talk about that, but what you’re doing to Rachel doesn’t seem right.” Rhoda tried to explain.
  • “What are you insinuating, Rhoda? So you’re saying that I should let her go?” Alpha Kyle clenched his fist.
  • “It’s inappropriate to hold her accountable for her father’s sins, Alpha.” Rhoda responded.
  • “No, Rhoda. She… Rachel Weston will pay for what her father did to me and my pack members. I can’t let this go. All I feel for Rachel is hatred.” Kyle replied coldly and walked away.
  • Walking into his office, he sat heavily on the couch with his palms cupping his forehead. Thoughts kept running through his head. Why was he so concerned about me? When he saw me collapse in the hall earlier, why did he think it was the end for him?
  • “Why would I have a soft spot for my enemy’s daughter? Why would I feel bad when she’s hurt when I should be excited that I’m getting the revenge that I seek? Her father killed my parents, and razed my pack. She… she will pay for that. Kyle, you have to get revenge.” He said to himself.
  • He was smacked out of his thought when the door of his office creaked open. Imelda walked in with a smile.
  • “Kyle… you look worried. What is the problem?” Imelda asked, sitting opposite him with her legs crossed.
  • Taking a deep breath, Alpha Kyle replied. “It’s nothing. I’m good.”
  • “I don’t understand you, Kyle. Why did you let the slave stop halfway in the punishment? Don’t tell me that you’re becoming soft towards her? Have you forgotten what we went through in the hands of that demon she called her father?” Imelda freaked out.
  • “I never for once, forgot that, but I don’t want her to die. If she had continued, I’m sure she would have died.” Kyle said calmly.
  • Imelda snapped at him. “So what if she dies? Isn’t that great? Kyle, you know how many times Alpha Dane forced himself on me, don’t you?”
  • “Imelda, I know all of that. But Rachel is my slave. She has no right to die yet because I have to get my revenge. You are not allowed to hurt her.” Alpha Kyle ordered.
  • “What? Are you protecting her now? After everything we’ve been through?” Imelda arched her brows at him.
  • “You slapped Rachel last night. I saw the fingers imprinted on her cheek. I would rather not see that again.” He said these words with an expressionless face.
  • “She was being disrespectful. I was just teaching her some manners.” Imelda blurted out.
  • “Imelda, that’s an order.” Alpha Kyle banged his fist on the table, making Imelda shiver. His Alpha aura dominated her.
  • “Yes, my Alpha.” She bowed at him.
