• The words landed heavily, and Morvienne felt it immediately. It was like something inside her chest dropped, her heart giving a full aching thud. The softness in her eyes wavered, and her breath caught just slightly. She didn't expect it to hurt this much, and when her lips parted, no words came out.
• She blinked once, then again, her eyes growing glossy despite her effort to act like she wasn't affected by his words. Her fingers curled slowly at her sides, gripping the fabric of her dress as she tried to stay composed.
