• A wave of panic surged through me the instant I saw Lucas's photo lighting up the screen of Dante's phone. My reaction was pure instinct. I grabbed the phone with trembling fingers and declined the call before switching it to silent. My heart was hammering in my chest, and my hands wouldn't stop shaking. It felt like my entire body was betraying me.
