Chapter 148 Rekindling (1)

  • I've lived next door to Edith for decades. We live in semi detached houses in the suburbs. Most of the neighbours weren't even born, when we moved in. She and her husband Norman arrived about a month after me, Dorothy and my husband Eric. The houses were brand new back then. We've both been alone for a few years now. Our husbands passed away about a year apart. Not unexpected when you get to our age. Now that we are on our own, we meet up most days for a cup of tea and a chat. It's nice to have the company. Most of the other people who live in our street, are about half our age. Although, they are all nice enough and we pass the time of day, as you would expect, we don't have much in common. If there are big drinks parties, we get invited, which is nice of them.
  • Our talk is normally about the cost of our shopping, what the weather is doing and what our families are up to. Just what you would expect from a couple of old women. If we are feeling a bit flighty, we'll talk about our neighbours and what they get up to. The young couple who smoke pot. The bloke who deals in slightly questionable, second hand cars. Or the woman opposite, she must be in her late forties, who opens the door to the postman or delivery drivers, with almost everything hanging out. One day when we were talking about her and how much the postman was seeing, Edith, took me by surprise.
  • "Her boobs are as saggy as mine and her nipples aren't that great. If I was him, I'd ask her to put it away. She's got no hair down there. She flashed the supermarket delivery man the other day."
