Chapter 41 He'll Be Back

  • I raised my hand, about to knock on the door, when I halted mid-air, unable to continue. I have no reason why I stop. I lowered my vision to the ground, staring at my feet. I felt nauseating as I tried to focus my attention, but it kept getting back to the same cycle of painfulness. I closed my eyes and then rested my forehead on the door, listening to the howl on the other side. I know he is letting out his feelings, so he will pretend nothing has happened when he steps out of this door.
  • Just the thought of it fractured my heart. I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from crying. We endure too much. I know it's hard to accept because we can carry this guilt for the rest of our lives. I heard a loud banging, then something crashed. I wanted to go in and stop him, but I knew he would just push me away. It was followed by a long deafening silence. I stood up straight, waiting for him to go out. I backed away a little from the door when he opened it. He abruptly looked down when his gaze landed on my face.
  • We didn't say anything for a minute. We just stood there, looking like a lifeless statues staring at each other. I slowly looked down at his chest because I heard his loud throbbing heart. I gulp, then slowly walk towards his way, crossing the distance between us. When I stopped, I touched it, trying to feel it in my palms. He didn't startle in his spot. He just let me. I gulp, then rest my head on his solid chest, listening to his heart as if I enjoy the melodic phrase.
