Chapter 7 Worst Or Best

  • “Come on!” he abruptly opened the entryway of his car. I nearly jumped in my seat in astonishment when he opened the door on my side and then he continuously took me with him. He appears elevated all of a sudden.
  • “Nathan, wait!” we just run while he’s making fun of my fidgety phase.
  • “So, what should we ride first?”
  • Yes, you heard him right. We’re actually at the carnival right now. Before us are diverse developments of a traveling entertainment show, rides, and any fun, party, or celebration, as a program of sports or amusement.
  • In short, I’m in hell.
  • “What are we doing here?!” panic can be heard in my voice as I scan the place. Goodness no, this is the least thing I need right now. Engaging with a parcel of people isn't truly my cup of tea. I can feel the color of my face deplete. From here in my spot, I feel queasiness just by observing the tall establishments.
  • The sun was dropping as the sky turned elevating. Night was drawing nearer and the cold breeze was blowing on my skin. I tuck the hair strands behind my ear as the wind blows brutally. The mood matches the atmosphere. I looked at Nathan’s side profile and it blew my breath away as I noticed how perpetual his whole confrontation was.
  • It’s illegal to be this prepossessing. I heaved out a deep sigh.
  • I heard Nathan snickered beside me then he looked at me sideways, “Have you forgotten? This is our date!” he sound excited.
  • I didn’t say a word as I just swallowed discreetly. He didn’t take note of my uneasiness as he just dragged me away by his side. Well, I don’t need to ruin his chances to show me how fun this is so I’ll just go with the flow then.
  • “Do you want to ride this?”
  • We halted before a huge wave of crowd cheering for what’s in front of us. Nathan pardons himself as he draws me close to him. A few are furious, but when they saw the guy, they quickly made a way for him. Well, I figure that's not a big inconvenience for him.
  • “Oh! I know this ride!”
  • I squinted my eyes as I inspected what’s in front of me. A few people are already inside the tremendous spinner wheel. A fellow beside the ride with the controllers thrust the big red button. The mammoth, turning ride that moves around, up, and down in a wave-like plan. People are shouting at the top of their lungs. A few nearly upchuck as their faces turned green. This is not a great idea. I turned my back away and was about to sneak when I felt something hold the back of my shirt.
  • “Where do you think you’re going, young woman? Hmm?” I heard Nathan behind me.
  • “Ah, restroom?” I smiled innocently as he just shook his head in disappointment.
  • “Tsk! Tsk! You’re not going anywhere!”
  • The ride ceased just in time when Nathan pulled me into the queue. I need to dissent but his hand is gripping mine. I could do nothing but consent to what he needed. When it’s our turn, a guy guided us to our seats. Nathan held my hands firmly as he helped me.
  • I hold on tight on my chair. I know my body is bolstered with a belt and a body assurance that’s supporting me from falling, but I can’t help but to be on edge as this is my first time going to a carnival. Yeah, my life is pitiful. I know.
  • “Relax.”
  • I felt a hand interlacing my fingers with him. I looked down at our hands then I saw Nathan’s fingers caressing the back of my hand, encouraging me it’s going to be okay. Somehow, the beating of my heart relaxes me and I feel secured with his hold.
  • “You ready?”
  • I gestured my head. He let out a sexy smirk as the ride began to spin. It was slow at first but when minutes came, that’s when this entire machine started to go insane. I was shouting and crying alright, but Nathan beside me is having the time of his life getting a charge out of the ride. When the thing stopped, I felt dizzy as I was holding my dear life not to throw up. The supporter lifted up, and I stood up but nearly lost my balance when Nathan caught me.
  • “You look wasted.” he laughed then he helped me to climb down.
  • I sulk and just crossed my arms. Well, to be fair I enjoyed it. I yelped in surprise when he snatched my hand then we walked away for another ride. This time we head to a group of cars that are hovering at each other. He demanded to ride the pink one and I just let him. I picked the blue one. A staff member guided us and helped me with my seat belt. While playing with the steering wheel, somebody bumped behind my car and I nearly hit my face on the wheel.
  • “You’re going down!” Nathan laughs maniacally, as if he’s an evil villain in the book.
  • I glare at him because that actually hurts. I maneuvered my car just to face him.
  • “Is that a challenge I hear?”
  • He halted mid air then raised a brow at me. Abruptly the things around us vanished and he was the only one I could see. Like a duel lock in combat with facilitated weapons, which is our car. He pointed his two fingers at me and I jokingly slit my throat utilizing my thumb then pointed my finger at him. When the minute came, we suddenly collided. It hurt at first, but when our battle became entertaining, that’s when we both barked with laughter and just enjoyed the whole night of playing.
  • We teased and made fun of each other until I didn’t notice that I was actually enjoying my time with him.
  • “So, how was the night? Did you enjoy it?”
  • As I am eating my cotton candy peacefully whereas looking down underneath the magnificent view way up here, he suddenly asked. I slowly looked at him while the cold wind blew the strands of my hair away. The Ferris Wheel all of a sudden stopped at the top.
  • “Hmm…” I nodded my head and I don’t know why I got timid.
  • Silence prevailed between us. I just look at my candy while feeling his gazes beside me. I gulp since I don’t know what to say. Earlier we were just having a fun time, and now we’re awkward.
  • “Thank you for this day, Natasha. I actually had fun tonight.”
  • I didn’t say anything as I just looked at him. His eyes are sparkling whereas the moon is enlightening in his face. The half is secured with shadow. He looks…beautiful to look at and at the same time, my heart pounded so fast I can’t breathe properly.
  • Our eyes lock for a minute, no words come out from our lips. He inclines closer to me, making my eyes widen. What is he doing? Why is he inching closer? I assumed he’s planning to kiss me or something since the atmosphere feels enchanted when he just holds my hand and kisses the back of it. My cheeks turned red, looking like a tomato. I look away, humiliated he might see it.
  • “So? What’s your answer?”
  • Oh, right. He’s been waiting for my reply. I fake a cough then look up at the moon, reminding myself. Even though this entire thing is bizarre and odd. However, our emotions are in sync and I wouldn’t dare to forget this moment with him.
  • “See you tomorrow, Nathan.”
  • When I got home, I couldn’t sleep at night thinking of him. I need to slap myself and say I need to have a rest since I still have classes tomorrow. I gaze at the ceiling, murmuring and just making scenarios in my head just to fall asleep. I really don’t have any idea how I will come up to him and strike up a conversation. I shook my head. I shouldn’t be overthinking anything about this.
  • Until I realized it was morning. Within the depths of my thinking the sun has risen and I look like a mess. I snorted in annoyance while making my way downstairs. I needed to drink coffee to keep myself from stumbling when I saw Mrs. Johnson doing something in her work area.
  • “Hey Mrs. Johnson.”
  • “Hello, Na-” when she looked up, the color of her face depleted as she put her hand on her chest, nearly having a heart attack.
  • “What the hell happened to you? You look like someone who came out straight to a coffin.”
  • I didn’t say anything as I waved my hand to her and just went past her. When I got out, the sun hit my eyes. My head is hammered and I feel kind of woozy, looking like an inebriated mess, but the great thing is I arrived at our school without killing myself. Joking aside.
  • “Hey, isn’t that the girl who dated Nathan Jones Davis?”
  • “You’re right, the one at the carnival?”
  • “I saw them hanging out and they looked like a couple.”
  • “Nah, for real, man? So Nathan isn’t single after all.”
  • Fear suddenly struck me like a lightning as I froze on my spot. I gulped numerous times as I gradually turned my gaze to my surroundings. That’s when I saw students are gaping at me, as if I’m the target. A few girls are mumbling something while pointing. Dudes are snickering, as if they are making fun of me.
  • I quickened my pace as my heart started to beat so fast. I despise this. I felt my hands getting cold. I kept my attention on the ground, not making any eye contact. I restlessly bit my bottom lip, making my way to the building when I bump into someone.
  • Great.
  • “Oh, look who’s here.”
  • That voice. I slowly looked up and I saw Natalie and her companions crossing their arms as they flaunted their large chest in my face. I gulped and let out an unstable breath.
  • “Uh, hello. If you don’t mind I was just about to-” I turned my back on them but they held my hand, not letting go of it.
  • “Oh no, you’re not going anywhere. We just want to have a word with you.”
  • I know where this is heading and I don’t want any trouble. I turned my attention back to them and let out a forced smile. This is not the day that I was expecting.
