Chapter 3 Wife Abducted, Dragon King's Fury

  • Maddox got dinner ready and put some medicine on his wife Scarlett's mouth.
  • "Bad guy, big bad guy, hurting mummy. When I grow up, I'm going to make him pay!" Hannah was still fuming, shaking her little fists.
  • Maddox picked her up and said, "Don't worry, Hannah. I promise to keep Mummy safe. You trust me, right?"
  • "Yeah, I trust you, Daddy. You're the best!" Hannah finally smiled.
  • Scarlett smiled and said, "Okay, you two, come and eat."
  • The dining table was small. Five years ago, they had rented this one-bedroom apartment in the old part of Streamhaven. Although the place was old, it was very cosy.
  • Suddenly, Scarlett said, "Maddox, how about we leave Streamhaven tomorrow? The lease on this place is almost up anyway. We could move to another city."
  • Maddox set down his chopsticks and replied, "No need. Hannah is still young, and moving suddenly might be too hard for her. But Scarlett, you stay home tomorrow. Trust me, once noon passes, no one will dare to hurt you again!"
  • Scarlett smiled and nodded. "Okay, I'll do what you say. Maybe we're just overthinking. Tomorrow is my day off anyway, but I can't rest for too long. Scarlett's starting elementary school next year, and we still haven't figured out the tuition."
  • "I'll handle the tuition fee, so don't worry about it," Maddox said, adding some food to Scarlett's plate. "Here, eat up, honey."
  • Hannah saw this and said, "Daddy, you're being unfair! You're only feeding Mummy and not giving any to me!"
  • "You little rascal, getting jealous at such a young age," Scarlett teased, and the family of three laughed together.
  • Outside the neighbourhood, two sneaky individuals checked the area carefully before pulling out their phones. "Hello, Mr. Victor. We've found where that woman is staying."
  • "Good job."
  • "Mr. Victor, should we go in and take her now?"
  • "No need. It's too noisy to go in now. Keep an eye on her and wait for the right moment tomorrow."
  • "Don't worry, Mr. Victor. We'll make sure she's delivered to you tomorrow."
  • "Then, I'll be waiting for good news from you. Get it done, and you'll be well rewarded!"
  • The next morning, after breakfast, Maddox planned to drop Hannah off at preschool and then head to the construction site to settle up.
  • "Remember, don't go out today," Maddox reminded. "I'll drop Hannah off and then head to the site, and I'll come straight back."
  • "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere today. It's been a while since I cleaned the house, so I'll use the time to tidy up," Scarlett said with a smile.
  • She added reassuringly, "You don't need to be so worried. Maybe we're just overthinking it."
  • Maddox carried Hannah and headed out, riding his secondhand motorcycle to drop her off at preschool. By the time he reached the construction site, it was already 9:30 in the morning.
  • Unfortunately, the site's accountant was running late.
  • "Maddox, they said the accountant will be here soon," David said with a smile. "It's a day off, how about a couple of rounds of chess?"
  • Maddox shook his head. He wasn't in the mood for that today.
  • David, a real chatterbox, pulled up a stool and sat down. "Maddox, even though construction work is tough, it pays well. You're strong, and the boss gives you an extra 300 a month. Why are you quitting? It's good work."
  • "You wouldn't get it," Maddox said, shaking his head.
  • David sighed. "Yeah, I guess I don't get it. I might not be too educated, but I can see you're special. If you find a better gig, don't forget about me."
  • Maddox just smiled lightly. In the five years he'd worked at the construction site, he hadn't made many friends, but David was one of them. Despite being chatty, he was a decent guy.
  • "Am I right? Is there really a big project? If so, count me in," David said, getting excited.
  • Maddox just shook his head and didn't say more. Just then, the accountant finally showed up.
  • Meanwhile, Scarlett had finished cleaning the house. Used to a life of luxury, she was exhausted from mopping the floors and was feeling sore all over.
  • Scarlett didn't regret her decision and had never complained to Maddox. She felt content as long as her family of three could live peacefully.
  • "Oh no, my wallet and ID ... " Scarlett slapped her forehead, realising she must have left them at the hotel yesterday.
  • It was only 10 a.m., and staying home felt boring, so Scarlett decided to go to the hotel.
  • What she didn't notice was that as soon as she got into a taxi, two burly men at the street corner immediately followed her.
  • Lila wasn't at the hotel, so Scarlett quickly grabbed her wallet and ID and was about to leave. She was a bit worried that someone from yesterday might show up.
  • Just as she was trying to hail a cab on the street, a van suddenly screeched to a stop in front of her.
  • Two masked guys jumped out, threw a sack over her, and tossed her into the van. The doors slammed shut.
  • The hotel's front desk manager, who thought Scarlett was a nice person, saw the whole thing and quickly got in touch with the boss, Lila.
  • "D*mn Victor! How dare he do this!"
  • Lila was furious, stomping her feet in anger. Forgetting about her important client, she rushed out of the meeting room and called Maddox.
  • Maddox was in the middle of settling accounts with the finance team.
  • When he answered the phone, Lila immediately started yelling, "Are you stupid? I told you over and over yesterday not to let Scarlett go back to the hotel. It's bad enough you can't protect your own woman, but now you can't even follow basic instructions!"
  • Lila was absolutely furious. If it weren't for this man, her close friend wouldn't be in this situation.
  • "Has something happened to Scarlett?"
  • "You're only figuring this out now? Two masked men just kidnapped her. I'm pretty sure Victor is behind it. That b*stard lives at Opal Bay, Number 18. I'm heading over there now!" Lila said before hanging up.
  • "Victor!" Maddox growled. He didn't care about settling accounts anymore and rushed out.
  • "Maddox, is something going on? I'm coming with you. You've helped me a lot over the past five years, so I should at least help you out now!"
  • David called out as he ran after Maddox, who didn't have time for a chat and just jumped into his motorcycle.
  • Little did David know that his decision to tag along would end up changing his life completely.
  • Maddox sped down the road, his eyes burning with rage.
  • "Scarlett, you can't be in trouble. You just can't be. If anything happens ... "
  • Maddox was crushed with guilt. He knew Victor was up to no good, but he still left Scarlett alone at home. If something happened, he'd never forgive himself.
  • Scarlett came from a wealthy family and should have been living a life of luxury. But she gave it all up for him, going against her family and getting kicked out.
  • When Maddox came back from the Imperial City, he was at rock bottom, broke and struggling. Yet Scarlett stood by him without a second thought.
  • For the past five years, they'd been living a simple life in Streamhaven. Things got even tighter after their daughter, Hannah, was born. To make money, Scarlett set aside her fancy background and worked at her friend's hotel. Despite everything, she never complained and just kept working hard.
  • Maddox had hoped that once the five-year period was over, he'd be able to give her a life that every woman would envy. But he never expected something like this to come up right now.
  • "Victor, if you lay a finger on her, I will destroy you and your entire family!
  • "Faster, faster!"
  • Maddox shouted furiously, flooring the gas pedal.
