Chapter 12 Mere Mortals Just Need to Stay Away
- The rain kept coming down in heavy waves, and the Quinns' convoy of over 150 people rolled in like a massive wave. The headlights cut through the dark rain and mist, looking like a long streak of light.
- Before long, the convoy reached the base of the mountain.
- "Stop the car!" Malcolm suddenly shouted, and the vehicles screeched to a halt right in front of Noah and the others.
- "Mr. Montague, didn't expect you to move this fast," Malcolm said as he got out of the car and walked slowly over.
- Noah naturally had to get out of the car and approach. "Given what's happened, as the Head of the Inspection Division, I had to come. But what's going on between you and the Graces? It's said that a strong dragon can't suppress a local snake. Why such a big conflict today?"
- Malcolm replied coldly, "An unworthy sc*undrel dared to attack my son in Streamhaven. That's a serious offence against my family, a capital crime. And now the Graces are trying to cover for this person. Do you think my family just going to stand by and do nothing?"
- Noah said in a deep voice, "Even so, is all this really necessary? Just deal with that troublemaker and be done with it. You're making things very difficult for me. As the Head of the Inspection Division, I can't just ignore this."
- "Mr. Montague, I'm afraid you won't be able to handle this today." Alstair suddenly got out of the car.
- "Well, well, isn't this Old Mr. Quinn? I didn't expect you to be involved too," Noah said, clearly surprised.
- Alstair snorted and pointed at Sher. "Do you know who he is? I'm sure you know him, but there's another side to him you might not know."
- Noah responded seriously, "I'm all ears."
- "Sher is part of the Eastwater Pavilion! He joined five years ago."
- Alstair said with a look of arrogance, "And the two people with him are the stewards of the Eastwater Pavilion. Tell me, Mr. Montague, are you still going to handle this? Do you even dare to?"
- Noah was taken aback. As the Head of the Inspection Division, he had certainly heard of the powerful Eastwater Pavilion, and for a moment, he was completely stunned.
- Malcolm sneered and said, "We have a good relationship, so I'll give you a piece of advice. It's best not to meddle. If you decide to stick your nose in this, we can't guarantee what might happen in the end.
- "Let's go, time to climb the mountain!" Alstair waved his hand, and the convoy quickly moved forward.
- Noah stayed frozen, looking a bit pale.
- His deputy asked, "Sir, are we still going up there?"
- Noah snapped out of it and said through gritted teeth, "Are you deaf? Didn't you hear what Malcolm said? That's the Eastwater Pavilion we're talking about. If I go up there, I won't make it back."
- The deputy didn't dare say another word.
- Noah sighed. "D*mn, the Quinns really kept this under wraps. They joined Eastwater Pavilion five years ago, and now they've got two stewards backing them up. The Graces is finished today; they're definitely doomed."
- Just then, Noah's phone suddenly rang. Looking down, he saw it was the Chief Inspector from Lumoria calling him directly, and his expression changed.
- "Hello, sir? What's going on that you needed to call me personally?"
- "What's going on? Noah, are you at Opal Bay right now?" came the stern response from the other end.
- "You really are sharp, sir. Even from miles away, you know what's happening in Streamhaven," Noah replied with a smile.
- "Stop with the flattery. Here's the deal, get your people out of there right now. The farther you get, the better!" The Chief Inspector's voice was very serious.
- Noah felt a surge of concern and asked carefully, "Sir, do you know the Quinns have brought in people from Eastwater Pavilion? Is that why you're telling me to stay away?"
- "Eastwater Pavilion? They're nothing!" The Chief Inspector scoffed. "Compared to that person, Eastwater Pavilion isn't even worth mentioning."
- Noah gasped.
- He couldn't help but ask, "If Eastwater Pavilion is just a small player, then who exactly is this person? Could it be ... "
- Suddenly, Noah had a hunch. Could it be the one who goes after Mr. Victor?
- The voice on the other end was cold and sharp. "Stop with the pointless questions. Just know that even I don't have any say over that person. What's about to happen is way out of your league. Get your people out of there immediately!
- "Listen, don't get any ideas about snooping or eavesdropping, or I can't promise you'll make it to tomorrow!"
- Then the Chief Inspector hung up abruptly.
- As Noah heard the busy signal, he could feel his heart racing.
- "Man, what's up with Streamhaven tonight? Everyone seems untouchable. With all these big shots clashing, we mere mortals just need to stay out of it. If I can't handle it, I'll just stay away. Let's head back!"
- After ranting for a while, Noah got back into his car.
- At that moment, he caught a glimpse of the Quinns entering the villa halfway up the mountain like a pack of wolves.
