• I’ve always been the kind of guy who overthinks everything. I’m the one who’ll spend an hour debating whether to order pizza or sushi, who’ll walk back to check if the front door is locked three times before leaving the house. So when it came to asking the most important question of my life—*Will you marry me?*—you can bet that I agonized over every detail.
• Emily and I had been together for four years, and in that time, I’d learned that she wasn’t like anyone I’d ever met. She was spontaneous, adventurous, the kind of person who could convince me to jump in the car at midnight and drive to the beach just to watch the sunrise.
