Chapter 7 Keeping her busy

  • I heard his crisp murmur before the other line fell silent. To this day his head is still hot. I can't deny that he still has a strong effect on me but I can't because I know that once he finds out about my job, he will resent me and it's impossible for him to like me because I am disgusted as trash. We had been together for over three years but he didn’t treat me like I am special to me but instead, he treats me like trash.
  • "I'll give you 10 minutes to be here in the restaurant or else you'll be fired." I was shocked by what he said so I immediately spoke up.
  • “But it seems–”
  • Toot..toot ..
  • I looked at my cell phone after he hung up. I hurried back inside the house. Zach wondered at my actions before sighing.
  • “I told you that you should call him before he did. Make it faster, I know he's mad already. He doesn't want to have an irresponsible employee.” I nodded because of what he said before I went inside the room. I changed my clothes because I had already taken a bath. I was walking down the stairs when I saw Zach already in his wheelchair while holding a pandesal. “Bring this. You don’t eat breakfast, ”
  • “ Thank you, Chuckie. ” He glared at me, which made me laugh before I got the pandesal. “I am leaving. Sorry for this again. Happy Birthday. ” I kissed his cheek before I went to my daughter and kissed her too.
  • "Y-You remember?" I looked at him and saw that his eyes were still manly so I laughed. I did not answer his question but I went to the door and when I was at the door I turned to him.
  • “Of course, Chuckie. You're getting older and older haha!” Before I ran I saw that he glared at me but there was still a smile posted on his lips. I got on the tricycle and a traffic jam hit me. I wish I had just walked because it's not that far and I still have time.
  • I arrived at the restaurant one minute late. Klea greeted me before pulling me away.
  • “Girl, you’re late. Your ex-husband, the monster, is very angry. ” I just shook my head at Klea when she said that but when Gio was there, this madman was silent.
  • "Bea, you're being called to the office!" Our manager’s angry voice echoed as she glared at me.
  • “Maam, don't look at us like that. You look like, medusa. ” Employees here at the restaurant inside the staff station laughed.
  • “You! Get back to work. ” I even saw Klea struggle before returning to work while I went straight to the man's office. I was just knocking when I heard his voice.
  • "Come in!"
  • I slowly opened the door before entering.
  • "G-Good morning, sir."
  • He titled his head and I felt an ice on my knees, “care to explain why you are late?”
  • "Sir, I have a rest day today."
  • His forehead furrowed before writing and later he lowered the ballpen. He folded his two hands before laying them on the table.
  • "Rest day?"
  • I nodded slowly, "y-yes."
  • “Did I give you permission? Did you ask for it? ”
  • "I'm saying goodbye to the manager." This is really my day so I wonder why I was called.
  • "Well, you need to ask for my permission because I am the one who manages this restaurant." Why is he here? Doesn't he have a lot to understand about the company and hotel. Why is he only focused here?
  • I just bowed, "sorry sir."
  • “Damn that sorry. Get back to work. This is your first warning. ”
  • "Y-Yes, sir." I held my breath as I left there because I could feel his gaze on me. I breathed a sigh of relief as I got out of the office.
  • I went to the locker and put my things there before I went to the make-up station. When I got there I saw Klea who immediately asked me. I found out she was at the make-up station now. Here in the restaurant we don't stay at one station. Depending on where we will be assigned except for the chefs here who are really in their position.
  • “Girl, why is that? I thought it was your day? ” Fortunately too and nothing too much has been ordered yet. It's early and the restaurant has just opened.
  • “I have a rest day. He said I didn't inform him.” I was surprised when she threw the rag on the make-up station table.
  • “What? Is your ex-husband really bad? Was that how it used to be to you? Seriously, a very bad habit. Just one mistake of his employee was fired immediately. He didn't even take back what he did to you before.”
  • "Shut up or someone will hear," I told her but this woman was really stubborn and really continued what she was saying.
  • “It is not us. Gosh, if I were you, I hope you kicked him or maybe you gave him an uppercut. Doesn't he know that the business also gets rich because of the employees. How can he organize his business if that is his attitude? Girl, I'm telling you that when you're invited to go back to him, don't ever come with him anymore. You already have Zacharie and you are happy now so he’s just an extra on your love story with Zach - huh? What are you doing? You look like a fool, Beatrix. ”
  • I shook my head and glared at her before pointing at Giovanni who was standing behind her who was already looking bad at her. Fortunately, there is a bit of distance between the stations here.
  • “I’m telling you Bea. Don't go back to that monster man because you will only get hurt again. You'd better just stay with Zacharie. We don't want to– ”
  • “ Oh, sir. What are you doing there? ” I could see Klea's eyes widen as she looked at me. One of the employee greeted Giovanni but then Giovanni just woosh
  • "Don't say he's behind me," she mumbled but I know Gio heard that. I averted my eyes as it looked at me. I turned my gaze back to Klea before nodding slowly. He bit his lip so hard before turning around and he could almost back away when he saw Gio's bad look at him.
  • “Good..morning sir. You were there earlier? ”
  • "Not really, enough to hear all those words you said behind my back."
  • "Which one, sir." I got a bruise on my forehead because of what Klea said. That man's nose must be smoky.
  • "Shut up and back to work!"
  • "Yes sir!" Klea immediately switched places with me so now I am so close to Gio that I can almost smell his scent that until now has not changed.
  • "And you!" I tilted my head. "Make the 100 boxes of cupcakes that we use to supply to Levian's Cafe and deliver it right now."
  • "Yes, sir."
  • "I said faster!" He shouted.
  • "Yes, sir!" I shouted too, which shocked him but I didn't mind him at all because I already went to the chiller and prepared the ingredients.
  • "Listen up everyone!" He announced, "don't you dare to help her or else you'll be fired." I even saw that it caught Klea's eye causing Klea to go and continue wiping after all no one popped up on the order screen. I saw that it was walking away from us because I could breathe easily.
  • “Girl, how about Zach's birthday?  I thought you were going out? ” Klea said to me in a low voice. I would have spoken when I heard a loud voice again.
  • “Get back to work and I don’t want a naughty employee here!” It was obvious that he was calling us because I saw that he was looking at us so I continued what I was doing. When I was sure that Gio was gone, Klea came back to me.
  • “Girl, can you finish that? There are only three ovens but those two are broken so you can only use one. That monster man seems to be intentional. Our chiller is also full. ”
  • I sigh, "I have no choice but to cope."
  • "I'll just talk to you for less hassle."
  • "It's still good." She hissed but I ignored it because I had already started making cupcakes. I stayed focused on making the cupcake that I didn’t realize that it's . I already have fifty boxes.
  • "That's later again, Bea. It's break time," Klea said.
  • I shook my head to her, "I need to finish this because I promised Zach."
  • "Oh, right, what can I do to help you?" I looked at her before speaking.
  • "Can you arrange the celebration? Even if it's simple, I can't take care of it. I'll just make him a cake. I still have money hidden—"
  • "Hep.I'll take care of the food. What is it? Do you want to set-up? "
  • "It's up to you,"
  • "Okay."
  • "Thank you very much."
  • "You’re welcome.." She came out of the kitchen while I continued making cupcakes. When I finished five sets again, I put it in the chiller while I took the one I put here earlier. Fortunately, the chiller is big.
  • I sorted the ones I was using first before sorting the boxes. I'm going to take it to Levian's Cafe because they might run out of supplies.
  • I rode a tricycle to the cafe. When I got off the tricycle, Gio and I got a sight of each other when he got out of his car.
  • What is he going to do here?
  • I saw his frown but I averted my gaze and immediately paid the driver. When I was close to his direction I turned to pay my respects before I walked again when I felt his warm hand on my arm that gave thousands of voltages to my body so I immediately removed his grip.
  • "W-Why sir?"
  • "Why don't you use your car? I didn't know you were fond of tricycles now? As a matter of fact, you're cheap." He mocked me and I felt a pang of pain in my heart but I composed myself and looked at him without saying anything then turned around. "Miss Sanchez, is that the correct attitude you give to your boss?" I confronted him.
  • "Mr. Castillo, Is that the correct behavior of a boss to his employee? Invading privacy, huh." He was quiet so that was the opportunity I used to go inside.
  • "Beatrix, why did you bring it?"
  • "Because I was ordered." I handed him the boxes of cupcakes.
  • He nodded, "I heard you had a surprise for Zach." I almost smiled before speaking. I know Levi and I know he is more loyal to his friend than to me so I sigh before I spoke again.
  • "Don't tell him. For Zach's sake."
  • "Don't worry." I breathed a sigh of relief. When Gio finds out, they might have another argument. I know I am assuming things but I felt that Gio still has resentment towards Zach. Whenever Zach gets happy he makes it hard just for Anika. I wonder if Anika and he are doing well.
  • It's been years, I am sure that he already has a family with Anika. I had no plans to ruin the family for myself. I think it's better that Gio doesn't know that he has a child with me because I don't want my child to experience what I went through so if possible I give all my love and so does Zach.
  • "I'm leaving, Levi. There's still some left in the resto."
  • Levi nodded, "All right. I'll see you later."
  • "All right."
  • I ignored the stare Gio was throwing at me while frowning. I looked at my money left over and saw that it would no longer cover the fare back to the restaurant so I decided to walk away.
  • I accelerated my walk but I think I was not halfway there. I wiped my sweat with my hand before starting to walk again.
  • I was just walking when I heard a horn. I looked across the street and saw the familiar car.
