Chapter 5 Icy Union

  • The joining of Emmett and Meggie came as planned, undisturbed, and smooth. The reception was filled with classical music, chattering, glasses clicking, and laughter as it rented the air.
  • Emmett was dressed in royal apparel as well as his mate, Meggie, as they stood smiling from ear to ear. Other Alpha's from other packs were invited, as well as other Luna's and top personalities.
  • "Congratulations," An Alpha from another pack approached them with his Luna: "I pray to the moon goddess that your joining would be one of peace and harmony."
  • "Thank you, Alpha Derek, Emmett said as they shook hands while the ladies hugged. "Thank you also for coming."
  • "We wouldn't miss it for anything." He said with a smile, "I look forward to many visits someday in your pack."
  • "I'd be honored to have you as a visitor, Emmett smiled back. "If time permits, we can get drunk and merry and catch up on the things happening in the clan."
  • "Yes, of course, he replied, "I'd be more than willing to." They both excused themselves to join the party.
  • Emmett and Meggie stood smiling at the clanspeople who stopped by to congratulate them. "It's been a while, another Alpha said, walking to him with a flute of champagne in his hands.
  • "You totally forgot about us, Emmett laughed. They both shook hands and laughed heartily. "Congratulations.
  • I must say you've gotten yourself a beautiful mate, he said. Emmett smiled. Indeed, I have." "It's been like five years.
  • I was surprised when I got your invitation. A big congratulations to you once again." "Thank you. I hope to see you around, "Emmett told him.
  • He slipped his drink and smiled. "Definitely. Iris had slipped out of her mother's house even after all her mother had warned her.
  • After all the nodding she made, she still had it in mind to go back to the packhouse, even if it was for the last time.
  • She wasn't recognized by the Pack people as she walked hastily out of the cottage to the paths. Her mother was out, and the handsome stranger was in the backyard chopping off some wood for her mother, which would be used in making lunch.
  • "I heard Alpha. Emmett had gotten a new Luna. She heard someone say to another as she walked by. "True, I wonder what's happening in the Packhouse.
  • Isn't it unlawful for the Alpha to reject his mate?" The other asked, "I also heard he'd be joining with his new mate today; only the heavens know why he's in a hurry to dispose of his Luna, "the first said.
  • Her only relief was that no one had actually seen her in the last three years; she had remained anonymous and hidden from the rest of the pack.
  • According to the law, it was going contrary to it if an Alpha mates an Omega; it would cause an uproar in the pack if they actually found out that their Luna was an Omega, so it was best no one had known who she was.
  • Iris walked quickly, and in some hours she finally got to the entrance of the packhouse. She could hear distant music even before she drew close; she knew the joining was ongoing.
  • Iris shielded her face with a scarf and decided to barge in to confront Emmett and also see whoever his new mate was.
  • She eyed the hefty guards stationed at the entrance, but she was determined to go in. "Thank you very much for coming to grace this event, Emmett said as he shook hands with an older Alpha from five packs away.
  • Suddenly a loud noise drove everyone's attention to the entrance, and everywhere became still. "Let me go!"Iris yelled from the entrance, Get your hands off me!"
  • Everyone watched as Iris tried to struggle herself free from the two guards who held her back firmly as she tried getting in.
  • Emmett frowned, and so did Meggie as they watched her from inside the packhouse. Emmett thought he'd never get to see her again after she left.
  • "Let me go, you bastards!" She yelled again, trying to break free from their hold. Her scarf had been removed from her face, and it lay in a circle around her neck as she struggled with it. Emmett gestured to them, Bring her to me."
  • The guards nodded and seized her by the arm, dragging her along like a prisoner ready for execution as they went into the packhouse.
  • Iris's eyes widened in shock as she saw Meggie standing closely behind Emmett. She hoped she was seeing things or probably seeing someone else who looked like her friend.
  • "Meggie?"Iris whispered Emmett gestured again to the guards to let her go, which they did. He felt the hundreds of eyes looking at them. "Hello, Iris," Meggie smiled.
  • "Wh-what's happening? "What are you doing here?" Iris asked, trying not to believe the thought that was slowly creeping into her mind.
  • "What does it look like?"Emmett chipped in "We're joining," Iris smiled. I'm the new Luna of this pack, Iris." Iris blinked.
  • She opened her mouth to say something, but only air came out. She was practically shocked to her toes as she stared in disbelief, tears flooding down her eyes.
  • "So it had been you all along?"You had always been the one." Iris asked Meggie smiled even more. Of course, darling I have.
  • You don't know how I felt watching you take away what's rightfully mine." "What have I ever done to you? I took you as my best friend. I trusted you," Iris cried.
  • "Oh, please. Save me the speech; look around you; no one likes you as the Luna. You're not needed here, Iris. Meggie said.
  • Iris turned to Emmett, her eyes filled with tears and her heart with pain. "How could you do this to me?You rejected me only to get me replaced by my own best friend."
  • She cried "It's too late for tears, Iris."You should leave now; you have already disrupted the party," Emmett said, wrapping his arms around Meggie as she pressed herself to him with a mocking smile.
  • The guards stepped forward to bundle her out, but she stopped them, wiping her face even as the tears flowed.
  • "I'd leave, Emmett, but I'd never forget this." She told him, and then her eyes moved to Meggie. "I hope you enjoy this while it lasts." With that, Iris turned away.
  • Her heart was heavy and sagging in pain. She tried to stay strong, but the question was, "Farewell, Iris, Meggie whispered with a smile. "We'd meet again."
