- The cold night air pricked Iris's exposed skin as she pushed farther into the foreboding depths of the forest. The wildwood trees that grew all around her seemed to reach out and draw her back into the dark shadows of her mind with their twisted branches.
- High in the sky above, the moon glowed drably across the landscape. However, its light didn't comfort anyone for some reason. It had been days since Phillipa had thrown her out and Erin had found her crumpled in the snow, bruised and battered, and helpless.
