Chapter 19 The Heart Of Darkness

• As it passed through Wildwood territory, dawn light found it difficult to penetrate this thick canopy. The forest was quiet, and the expectant silence that hung over the land made it feel as if it were holding its breath.
• Iris, Erin, and their allies had spent the entire previous evening braced for whatever danger might lurk in the shadows. They were all on high alert inside the pack, knowing that they were in danger, both personally and physically.
• Iris had barely slept at all after a few hours, her mind racing with all they had discovered. She felt an undercurrent of menace hidden in this cave, out of sight, like the shadows from her dreams that now seemed to have substance.
