Chapter 17 Perverse Client

  • “Emmanuel, what are you doing?” Eleanor shouted, jumping to her feet and glaring at him when she saw him appear out of the blue.
  • A sense of foreboding then washed over her as she observed the grim expression on her face.
  • Nevertheless, Emmanuel ignored Eleanor. After pulling her away, he began storming toward Jerry.
  • Emmanuel's frigid gaze made Jerry's heart lurch. The latter gulped as he stared at Emmanuel warily.
  • “W-What are you trying to do? We're still in the middle of our business negotiation, so why did you barge into our room?”
  • Bang!
  • Without missing a beat, Emmanuel grabbed Jerry's head and smashed it against the wall.
  • “Ah!” Jerry shrieked in agony. Blood instantly spurted out of his forehead. After falling to the ground, he curled himself up and began to tremble in pain.
  • However, Emmanuel did not stop at that. He proceeded to swing his leg right at Jerry.
  • Jerry went into shock in no time, and soon, he lost consciousness and lay on the ground motionlessly.
  • After knocking the other man out, Emmanuel flashed a smile at Eleanor and sat on the chair.
  • After taking a new fork, he began digging into the food.
  • Eleanor could only stare at Emmanuel in disbelief. For a long while, she could not form any words in her mind.
  • “Were you in the middle of discussing business? How was it?” Emmanuel asked with a smile after sipping on some wine.
  • Bam!
  • Eleanor smacked her hand on the table and roared, “So you knew I was in the middle of a business negotiation? You barged in and knocked my client out! What are you trying to do? You forced me to sign an eighty million contract, but you're constantly intervening in my efforts to fulfill it. You won't let me do any business with anyone at all, so spill! What are you hoping to achieve by doing this?”
  • The indignation that Eleanor felt could no longer be described with mere words.
  • She would not say she was an ambitious woman; all she wanted was to complete eighty million worth of sales as quickly as she could.
  • Yet, Emmanuel was constantly intervening in her work, and he had even rushed in to knock her client out without any reason.
  • Clearly, he had no intention to let her complete the eighty million deal easily.
  • The sheer amount of sales was already making her feel despair, and Emmanuel was not doing anything to help with his multiple trouble-stirring interventions.
  • Why? I just want to live a simple life with Eva. Is it that difficult for me to have that?
  • “Emmanuel, I know now,” Eleanor said tearfully, on the verge of breaking down.
  • “I can never complete that eighty million deal because you'll always create all kinds of trouble for me. Two years later, you'll just take Eva away. You make it seem like you're giving me a chance, but you're just slowly pushing me off the cliff into hell, aren't you?”
  • “Haha,” came Emmanuel's heartless chuckle. “It's supposed to be a business talk, but you've agreed to meet in a tiny restaurant in the suburbs. I'd like to know what kind of business you're negotiating with him. The shady kind?”
  • “What are you talking about?”
  • Eleanor bit her lips as she quaked from the overwhelming anger.
  • “Emmanuel Kirsch, stop judging me with your tainted mind. You're crossing the line!”
  • Nevertheless, Emmanuel merely smiled and continued eating.
  • Eleanor felt wholly helpless at the sight of the man's nonchalant demeanor.
  • She had been through many things, and she was far from a fragile being.
  • However, when Emmanuel treated her like that, she felt the urge to rush out and bawl her eyes out.
  • Yes, because of me, you were locked up for eight years. But was it all my fault? I'm a victim too. Why do you have to make it seem like I've done the world's biggest mistake? What wrong did I do?
  • “The cops are here,” came a sudden voice from outside.
  • Right then, a group of police officers gathered by the entrance of the private room, and their gazes were fixed on Jerry.
  • Wrath emerged in Eleanor's eyes, and she said to the police, “Sir, he's the one who beat that guy up for no good reason. Hurry up and arrest him!”
  • You want to ruin my deal, right? Enjoy your stay with the police!
  • After Emmanuel drank the last glass of wine, he walked past the group of officers and left the room casually.
  • Eleanor bellowed, “Sirs, are you really just letting him go like that? He just beat someone up! How can you let him go just like that?”
  • “Miss, please calm down. This man here is a serial rapist. He often uses the excuse of having business negotiations to drug his female clients before raping them. Frankly, he can't give you any deals. He only works in a small cosmetic clinic. Why would he need that many masks? Fortunately, Mr. Kirsch came in time, or else you'll be this animal's next victim.”
  • “W-What?” Eleanor was dumbfounded.
  • “We're not lying to you. This man often does similar crimes, and we've been trying to arrest him since a long time ago. Sadly, we were unable to do so because of a lack of evidence. Mr. Kirsch was the one who provided us with sufficient evidence. All right, Miss. You should leave soon. Remember to be wary the next time you have a business meeting with someone else.”
  • After hearing the police officer's words, Eleanor dazedly walked out of the restaurant.
  • When she saw Emmanuel smoking at the side of the road, remorse and embarrassment appeared on her face.
  • She kept complaining about how Emmanuel had destroyed the deal with the client she took much effort in finding.
  • Yet, as it turned out, Jerry was a perverted creature—a wolf in sheep's skin.
  • In other words, she had wronged Emmanuel earlier.
  • Eleanor slowly walked over to the spot behind Emmanuel. She wanted to say something to him, but she could not bring herself to do so.
  • Although she despised Emmanuel, she had made a mistake by accusing him earlier.
  • Had it been someone else, Eleanor would have not hesitated in apologizing to them.
  • However, she felt strange when she was about to apologize to Emmanuel. No matter what, she simply could not say the simple word “Sorry.”
  • “I didn't come to help you,” Emmanuel softly started when he saw the internal struggle she was going through. “You're my salesperson. Having you getting tricked by Jerry is a humiliation I cannot afford. That's all.”
  • “Okay.” Eleanor nodded, her eyes still fixed on Emmanuel's back. “I know.”
  • “There's nothing wrong with you meeting your clients, but you must first find out their details before meeting them for a meal. Also, as a girl, you should meet your client for the first time in the day. It's best that you meet near his company. Not only would you be able to find out how big their company is, but you can even figure out whether or not they're telling the truth. Don't believe in everything others say in the sales field.”
  • “Okay, I'll keep that in mind.”
  • Emmanuel then took one last indifferent glance at Eleanor before getting into the Rolls-Royce.
  • Eleanor finally relaxed her tense body as she watched the Rolls-Royce drive off.
  • Walking to a tree and leaning against it, she then instinctively lit a cigarette and stared at the starry sky. Somehow, Emmanuel's words kept reverberating in her mind.
  • You can't go out with unfamiliar clients at night for a meal.
  • It was at that moment Eleanor abruptly realized that she was too inexperienced.
  • If not for Emmanuel's arrival, the consequences would have been dire.
  • Halfway through her cigarette, Eleanor suddenly recalled Evangeline's crying face. Her hand shook, and she instantly put out the cigarette.
