Chapter 11 Two Teams

  • Inside a mansion in the suburb of Summerbank, muffled thuds could be heard.
  • Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
  • Douglas was punching a sandbag like a madman.
  • Even though he was covered in sweat from head to toe at that moment, he still had no intention to stop.
  • He was going to vent out all the frustration that had been building inside him the whole day.
  • In all the years he was the CEO of Bellridge Group, he had never been humiliated like that before.
  • Being slapped in public by Emmanuel was the greatest insult to him.
  • Douglas desperately wished to seek revenge. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to gain a foothold in the company in the future.
  • Suddenly, a bald man in a suit entered the mansion and approached him. “I've investigated who Emmanuel is. He's the son of a prominent family from Yeringham. Ten years ago, he was exiled from his family. His name has been stripped away from the Kirsch family's register. It's likely that the money he has right now is what little inheritance he got from the Kirsch family in secret. After all, the Kirsch family's blood still runs in his veins.”
  • “Godd*mn. So, he's just a piece of trash who was booted out of his family.” Douglas spoke as he panted. “I want to know what is his relationship with Eleanor. How dare he slap me because of a woman!”
  • “Eight years ago, the man who slept with her was Emmanuel. Not only that, both of them have a daughter called Evangeline who's currently in the second grade at Sunshine Elementary School. If you want revenge, you can start with their child,” the bald man suggested.
  • Douglas' fist smashed into the couch as he scowled. “I'm going to make Emmanuel pay for this!”
  • Currently, the Kirsch family clinic was being taken care of by Freddie.
  • He picked up a few medical skills from Emmanuel after following him for years.
  • While he wasn't that great at it, he was still good enough to deal with simple ailments.
  • When Emmanuel went to the company with a bag of breakfast and passed by the sales department, he realized there was no one inside.
  • Thus, he took the opportunity to place the breakfast on Eleanor's table.
  • According to what he heard about her routine, she had been skipping breakfast for eight years, which was why she was suffering from a serious stomach illness.
  • Therefore, he bought breakfast for her, wanting her to have some.
  • When Eleanor arrived at the company and clocked in, she saw buns and milk on her table. A look of disdain surfaced in her eyes.
  • Without hesitation, she threw it all into the trashcan. She didn't even need to wonder who was the one doing that. There's no way I'm going to accept Emmanuel's goodwill! All I want to do now is just achieve the eighty million target and then live a happy life with Eva.
  • Suddenly, someone shouted from the outside, “It's meeting time. The new CEO is conducting a meeting with the sales department. Gather at the conference room on the top floor.”
  • When the staff heard that, they carried their notebooks and left the sales department for the conference room.
  • Eleanor simply closed her eyes and calmed herself down before doing the same.
  • Inside the conference room, Emmanuel was wearing a tidy suit and sitting on the CEO's seat. A domineering aura emanated from his body.
  • All the staff from the sales department would subconsciously glance at him with a look of fear and respect when they entered.
  • The director of the sales department, Shane Burgess, stood up and glanced at Emmanuel before saying, “Everyone has arrived, Mr. Swanson.”
  • Douglas' support was one of the reasons he was able to occupy his current position aside from his own hard work, so he didn't hesitate at all to take Douglas' side after the two-CEO rule was implemented.
  • He didn't even attempt to hide his disfavor of Emmanuel.
  • Douglas nodded, turned to the crowd, and said softly, “I have an announcement to make. Due to the new two-CEO rule, the chairman had requested the sales department to be split into two teams. Both Mr. Kirsch and I will lead one team each for the coming season. As for how we're going to split the team, I still need to discuss it with him.”
  • There was a calm expression on Emmanuel's face. “I think it's best to let everyone choose who they want to join. If you want to work under Mr. Swanson, then join Douglas' team. If you want to work under me, then join Emmanuel's team. It's fine if the numbers between the two teams aren't equal. I just hope everyone can find the team they're happy with.”
  • Once the registration started, sixty of the eighty-odd members of the sales department joined Douglas' team.
  • The remaining twenty people were interns, and they all had no choice but to choose Emmanuel's team.
  • It was because they were certain they weren't skilled enough to join Douglas' team.
  • In order to keep their job in their company, they were forced to join Emmanuel's group.
  • For Eleanor, it was a tough choice.
  • She didn't want to join either of the teams.
  • However, when it seemed like Douglas didn't appear to want her, she had no choice but to join Emmanuel's team.
  • Staring at the names of twenty people on the list, Emmanuel let out a sigh of relief when he saw Eleanor's name on it. “Now that the members have been assigned to two teams, I have something else to announce. In order to make sure the sales department staff can reach greater heights, the department will be adding an additional position for a vice director. We will review all of your performances and choose the best of you to be the vice director.”
  • Hearing that piece of news made a lot of the staff abuzz with excitement, especially the elites of the department. They tightened their fists, ready to give it their all in order to become the vice director.
  • The announcement of that contest immediately got all the staff there riled up. They couldn't wait to run out and get as many sales as possible.
  • “There's nothing else I want to say. How about you, Mr. Swanson?” Emmanuel glanced at Douglas.
  • Without even glancing at Emmanuel, Douglas looked at his journal and spoke softly. “I believe everyone knows that the company's latest facial mask, Freyja Mask, is about to hit the market. Right now, Southspell Corporation is the largest cosmetic company in Summerbank. There are more than three hundred large beauty salons under their flag. So, the amount of facial masks they need is astronomically high. Now, I need everyone to tackle this project. Who wants to take charge?”
  • “I'll do it.” Eleanor was the first to stand up and speak before anyone else did. “I would like to helm this project.”
  • At that moment, she actually had no idea why she stood up.
  • Perhaps she was throwing a tantrum directed at Emmanuel, or maybe she just wanted to prove herself. I'm going to be the vice director! You may be rich, but when I get serious, I'm no worse than you!
  • Everyone promptly shifted their attention to her. Hostility was present in the eyes of the elite staff.
  • Once the competition for the position of vice director was announced, everyone wanted to helm that massive project.
  • After all, if they could handle it, it would be very helpful in their attempt to run for the position of vice director.
  • “Sure. I'll let you handle it.” Emmanuel nodded in agreement.
  • “Wait.” A cold smile was visible on Douglas' face as he stared at Emmanuel. “You just said we're going to hold a campaign to choose who's going to be the vice director. Yet you're directly handing this massive project to her? She may be on your team, but don't you think you're too biased?”
  • “Oh? Then what do you suggest we do?”
  • “Well, since this is a campaign, there needs to be a competition, right? Sophie Burgess, you've been around for a while now, and you have a lot of experience. I recommend you to take on the Southspell Corporation project.”
  • “Thank you, Mr. Swanson.” Excitement was written all over Sophie's expression.
  • Everyone knew she was Shane's niece and also one of Douglas' favored employees.
  • She could already do whatever she wanted in the sales department, so it was obvious that Douglas recommended her mainly to piss Emmanuel off.
  • Emmanuel recommended Eleanor while Douglas recommended Sophie.
  • The battle between the two CEOs made the blood of countless staff boil.
  • One had to admit that not only did the two-CEO rule put both CEOs' positions in peril, but it also greatly motivated the staff.
  • The more competition there was, the more motivated everyone became to win.
  • “Very well. We'll be using this project to let you two compete for the position of vice director.” Emmanuel nodded while staring at Eleanor. “Whoever can claim the project will occupy the position of vice director. Not only that, but the winner will also be rewarded with three hundred thousand in cash and a BMW. Good luck to you two.”
  • Sophie nodded like a madwoman confidently. After all, there was nothing for her to be afraid of when she had someone supporting her.
  • As for Eleanor, she was silently reading through information about the new facial mask. Her mind had already begun concocting a plan to sell the new product.
  • After the meeting concluded, and she had just left the conference room, Emmanuel brushed her by. “While Sophie isn't that good in her job, with her uncle helping her, you need to come up with a plan—”
  • “There's no need for you to care how I conduct the sales. I just need to achieve the eighty million target.” She shot a cold glance at him as she cut him off.
  • He just shrugged. “Hopefully you're this unyielding when you're discussing business with Southspell Corporation.”
