Chapter 1 The Beginning

  • Chapter 1
  • It was nine in the evening, the winds blowing gently from the window inside the house, the light inside flickering.
  • A thunder flash revealed the appearance of a woman who was claded in a black robe, her thick dark hair hung in a long graceful curve over her shoulders, tilting her head aside, the light revealed her reflection in the mirror.
  • Her facial face was delicately carved, her mouth full, and her complexion was white and illusive pink.
  • Slowly she rose from the chair, the black velvet of her dress heightening the translucence of her face and neck.
  • As she swirled around, the light suddenly revealed the unspoken pain which was alive and glowing in her eyes and a flash of wild grief ripped through her at the thought of her husband, Ryan.
  • The sudden ring from her phone derailed her train of thought as she rushed over to pick it up, she almost slipped but was quick to maintain her composure.
  • "Hello," She said after letting out a faint smile.
  • "Hi, Mrs Frederick, this is your PI. Please can you spare some time and come over to Blue Light Restaurants?" The voice asked over the line.
  • "I'll be right there in the next fifteen minutes." She answered quickly over her choking, and beating heart.
  • A few minutes later.
  • Precious parked her car at a restaurant parking lot and then walked inside, she walked over to a table where a woman had waved at her.
  • Precious ass sink in the chair, her heart heavy with pains at the further news she might receive about her husband.
  • He'd been missing for 1 week, and when she had tried to report the incident to the police a message was sent to her not to even dare lay a missing complaint case at the police station or else she would lose him.
  • Afraid, she had told her best friend, and her best friend in turn had warned her to forget about her husband, move on, or just wait until he returned from his adventure.
  • Now, she's so scared that the private investigator might apprise her that her husband is dead, that she struggled to control the spasmodic trembling in her heart at those thoughts.
  • "Hi," The private investigator waved her hands in front of Precious's eyes to warrant her full attention.
  • Precious blinked her eyes, and a faint tear escaped.
  • "Yes... just tell me now." Precious choked on her words.
  • The private investigator bites on her lower lips, "I'm sorry my work took so long to be compiled, but I wanted to gather much evidence for my suspicions. The truth is that I've long found out about your husband's..."
  • Precious's eyes widened at the mention of her husband, an inexplicable emotion sparkling in her eyes.
  • "Your husband's life, I've been digging about him and so many things piqued my interest which I..." Precious watched as the private investigator had stopped talking, and stared emotionlessly.
  • "Please just tell me if he's dead," Precious couldn't control her emotions anymore.
  • The private investigator dropped a file on the table, alongside a napkin and a bottle of water.
  • "I'm sorry you might need these materials to read what is in the file before you."
  • Precious gave the woman across her a gingerely glance, before taking the files in her grasp to scale through them.
  • Frustratingly, she dropped the files.
  • "Just get straight to the point, please." she pleaded for the umpteen time.
  • The investigator drowned in a deep breath. "Your husband has been keeping a lot of things from you. The first is, the clothing and textiles company he works in, secondly, Hilton hotel is being owned by him alongside a silent partner,"
  • Precious shook her head.
  • "He also owned a greenhouse farm, fish farm, a jewelry company, and a hotel alongside a silent partner whose Identity I was unable to unveil."
  • Precious shrugged her head. "No..." her husband was an average man, a working-class man who couldn't even fund their house rent, children's school fees, or food they were eating.
  • Her husband was working part-time manager who was being paid a meager salary. His salary has remained unpaid for the past seven months over a money scandal.
  • "The hotel he co-owned with someone makes at least $40,000 per day, farmhouse made at least, $90,000 every month inclusive of taxes."
  • Precious trembled at the investigator's words as she listened to him.
  • "I also found out that you signed a prenup entering this message so should you divorce, you're walking out with nothing, not even your car or cellphone, it's written in his name, not even your kids either,"
  • Precious shivered with chill and fatigue at the sickening thoughts that her kids wouldn't be getting anything out of Frederick's inheritance.
  • She felt drained, hollow, lifeless listening to her.
  • "Also I figured out that your husband was not missing, he's with his mistress at one of their property, in New Jersey."
  • Precious shot an askance look at the private investigator to mention the name.
  • "I'd supposed you catch them together because you might not believe me if I tell you who it is. It's someone close to you, someone you love with the whole of your heart. That's what made me hesitate a bit before telling you."
  • Precious suddenly felt all pleasure left her, the only things left at the moment were the raw sores of an aching heart.
  • How could Frederick have done this to her?
  • He could have just divorced her instead of betraying them in this kind of way.
  • Foolishly, she had signed this prenup because she didn't want Frederick to think she was marrying him for money, but guess now the jokes were on her.
  • "Uhm..." the private investigator cleared her throat.
  • Precious lifted her gaze to hold her.
  • "My informant just told me now that your husband is with his mistress at the house he purchased for her, perhaps you go there at the moment to see about what I've been telling you."
  • "Where? Where's that?" precious asked in a tear-filled voice.
  • "Calm down madam. I'm going to give you the locations where you'll find them, their usual meeting zones."
  • The investigator said scribbling the pin location on a piece of paper and giving it to precious.
  • Precious stared at the pin location, her heart giving in to death, this estate was one among the residential areas for billionaires.
  • She slapped and pinched herself, "how come she never even learned of this? How stupid of her to have been in foolish affairs with a man who doesn't even regard her."
  • "Idiot!" she cursed herself.
  • She jumped into her car, the car which belonged to her husband to drive towards the location where her supposed missing husband was hiding with his lover.
  • She typed the address on Google Maps and in no time she got there.
  • Precious parked her car and jumped over the fence like a thief. She saw her husband's car and she strived to swallow the lump in her throat, she strolled on opening the door with trembling hands.
  • The house was so luxurious and expansive that she couldn't help but to awed at the sight.
  • At her train of thought, the sounds of moaning filling the air attracted her and she followed through the direction of the voice.
  • There's nothing like quite the sounds of your husband fucking someone else. He should have at least ended things with me before slipping his cock into someone else.
  • She was kind of detached as she stood outside the door, and let her palm skimmed over the hard-carved wooden door, before taking a deep breath and pushing the door open.
  • Frederick quickly got off the woman's body, and Precious's mouth dropped open in shock.
