Chapter 6 I Can Heal Him
- As soon as these words were spoken, the entire room fell silent.
- The quintuplets alternated their gaze between the woman and their great-grandfather, their little heads constantly moving back and forth.
- The little ones couldn't hold back their emotions and started crying out loud.
- Daniel's eyes immediately welled up with tears. He frantically clung to the edge of the bed, pleading for his father not to die. With reddened eyes, Elijah stood on his tiptoes and stretched out his small hand, trying to grasp his father's hand while holding back his tears.
- The Quille family household was in turmoil. Right under Frederick's watchful eye, his own grandson was shockingly poisoned by someone.
- If this conclusion were true, it would be like a slap in the face for him.
- Frederick couldn't help but shudder. His entire being radiated an intense pressure. His voice strained as if suppressing a raging anger as he asked in a deep tone, “Dr. Sherrod, are you certain?”
- Upon hearing his stern words, Charlotte responded calmly and resolutely, “I'm certain! Additionally, I suggest you and the two children also get checked.”
- Frederick clenched his cane tightly, issuing a cold command. “Peter, investigate.”
- Peter's face turned ashen. Immediately, he straightened his back, trembling, and said loudly, “Noted!”
- If Nathan were indeed poisoned, it could only mean that there was a traitor within the Quille family.
- But before he could even step out the door, a robust reprimand echoed from outside. “Where does this arrogant youngster come from? How dare you spout nonsense?”
- The door was pushed open.
- An energetic elderly man dressed in a traditional suit walked in, trailed by a woman. As soon as Belinda caught sight of them, her proud expression changed dramatically. She demanded sternly, “What are you doing here?”
- Upon seeing her arrival, Elijah moved his lips but didn't utter a word.
- Meanwhile, Daniel hurriedly called out, “Mommy!”
- Belinda's face turned deathly pale, her whole demeanor becoming unusually tense. “Ah, Sweetheart!” she exclaimed.
- Frederick introduced Charlotte, “This is my granddaughter-in-law, Belinda.” He then turned to Belinda with a somber expression. “This is the miracle doctor I've hired.”
- D*mn! My intuition was spot on! This despicable person just won't leave us alone!
- Swept up in immense dread, Belinda managed to keep her face expressionless as she stepped forward to greet, “It's been a while.”
- Upon noticing their change in expression, Charlotte sarcastically remarked, “You have quite the memory. We clearly just met not long ago.”
- Just as Belinda's cheek twitched, ready to retort, Anthony had already dashed over to the elderly man's side. Looking up, he asked, “Mister, who are you?”
- Upon hearing this, the man stroked his beard while Belinda, standing next to him, proudly announced, “This man is the legendary surgeon who has been hidden from the world for many years! Seamus Lynch, the miracle doctor!”
- Seamus voiced his skepticism. “Numerous renowned physicians were at their wits' end, yet you managed to diagnose within mere seconds? Old Mr. Quille, she's nothing but a fraud. I urge you all not to fall for her nonsense.”
- Charlotte's face showed no sign of panic. She calmly stated, “It's normal that they couldn't diagnose Mr. Quille. He's been poisoned with a rare toxin.”
- Before Seamus could even speak, Belinda had already voiced out, her face full of indignation.
- “Charlotte, you were always at the bottom of the class back in school. I've never heard of you studying medicine. Could it be that after going off the grid for a few years, you've become some miracle doctor? Lettie, Mr. Quille is the only heir of the Quille family. Even if you're upset with me, you can't joke about my fiancé's life!” Belinda said, her eyes welling up with tears, clutching her chest as if she were about to faint.
- Peter quickly rushed to support her, his face filled with anxiety as he asked, “Mrs. Quille, what's wrong?”
- With tears clouding her vision, Belinda spoke in a voice tinged with shame. “It's all right. I just feel so guilty, as if I've let the Quille family down. Because of my personal grudges, it interfered with Nathan's medical treatment.”
- Having said that, she turned her gaze toward Charlotte, a helpless plea on her face. “Lettie, I know you're short on cash. How about this? Let me give you some. Just stop causing trouble, okay?”
- In just a few words, Charlotte was painted as a self-serving, ruthless villain with no regard for human life.
- Peter's gaze changed. Are Dr. Sherrod's words reliable?
- Charlotte took a deep breath, recalling how, back then, the other party had twisted the truth, causing her family to grow increasingly disgusted with her.
- She retorted, “Belinda, stop with your innocent act! A doctor's duty is to cure and save lives. You can insult me all you want, but don't insult my profession! I solemnly swear to the noble profession of medicine if I allow any personal biases to interfere with my treatment of Mr. Quille's illness, may I never find peace in death! Moreover, the past? Do you really want to discuss the past with me?” Charlotte's eyes flashed with a threatening glint as she stepped forward, cornering Belinda.
- Her three little ones were so furious that their faces turned red. This woman in front of them was utterly shameless, even uglier than the scorpion demon from their favorite cartoons!
- Bennett pouted and looked at Frederick, saying very seriously, “Old Mr. Quille, Mommy's medical skills are really good. She isn't lying!”
- Tears of unfairness streamed down Olivia's face. “Yes,” she said, “Mommy is Mr. Caseareo's apprentice. She's awesome!”
- Belinda looked at her in fear, her gaze filled with uncertainty, her face turning a deep shade of purple as she dared not speak. Charlotte, upon seeing this, let out a contemptuous laugh. She turned around to calm the children who were standing up for her and said with composure, “Dr. Lynch, you may examine him yourself. After all, facts speak louder than words.”
- Seamus cast an unexpected glance at her, moving forward to make his diagnosis. After a considerable amount of time, his face took on a strange, serious expression. “Mr. Quille has indeed been poisoned!” he declared solemnly.
- The expressions on the faces of those present drastically changed, but this was all part of Belinda's plan.
- Belinda feigned a look of surprise, her voice taking on a sharp edge. “What? You couldn't have possibly misread it, could you?”
- Seamus looked at her deeply, then turned his gaze to Frederick. “I've only read about this poison in ancient texts. It's incurable.”
- Indeed, that was the original plan.
- They came to check the pulse, stating that this illness was incurable.
- Seamus wasn't exactly lying because he was merely stating the facts. He simply informed Frederick of the reality, advising him not to recklessly meddle with his grandson, who didn't have many days left to live.
- “I can't treat this patient,” he admitted.
- With a feigned sense of urgency, Belinda asked, “Are you sure this is an incurable disease, Dr. Lynch?”
- “Indeed,” he replied.
- Seamus dramatically furrowed his brows. “The only one who could have treated it is Mr. Caseareo, a descendant of the legendary Raphael who had been living abroad for many years. But he disappeared years ago and is nowhere to be found.”
- At that moment, Charlotte spoke up. “I can heal him!”
- Belinda was about to immediately chastise her, but a cold glance from Charlotte made her hesitate.
- “Belinda, I'm the doctor hired by the Quille family to treat Nathan's illness, paid with a consultation fee. If I weren't confident in curing the patient, the Quille family wouldn't spare me in the end, right?”
- Belinda stared at her, trembling all over. She hadn't expected that after six years of absence, the once timid girl had transformed into a sharp-tongued woman.
- Charlotte turned her gaze toward Frederick, asking earnestly, “Old Mr. Quille, I am Mr. Caseareo's last disciple. Would you trust me?”
- Frederick fell silent, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts. It was clear that the person in question was indeed Caseareo's last disciple. She could discern that Nathan being poisoned was indeed a ruthless act.
- However, Seamus has been practicing medicine for several decades. Whether it's experience or knowledge, he must far surpass her.
- He was well aware that in the field of traditional medicine, it was often the older doctors who had the most seasoned perspectives.
- Frederick's gaze was steady as he studied Charlotte, remaining silent for quite some time.
