Chapter 373 Drag Belinda Away

  • Benny stared up from under Mommy’s hand with big, round eyes at Charlotte, totally puzzled. The whole “refusing treatment out of pride” line had been Mommy’s, so why was she shutting it down now? Even if you didn’t count Mommy’s skills, his own tricks worked like magic—one dose and you were fixed. But if Mommy said not to talk, he’d keep quiet. Benny pouted, looking all wronged at Charlotte, letting her know he got the hint. Charlotte’s gaze flicked over him; once she was sure he wouldn’t blurt it out, she let go. Theodore, though, wasn’t about to let Nathan off the hook. Wearing a look he wouldn’t name, he eyed the man. “Come on, it’s a guy’s issue. Mr. Quille, you could let Benny take a look. The little miracle doctor’s the real deal.” Nathan chuckled. “Our household hired Charlotte. If I’m sick—no matter what kind—I’ll have her diagnose me. As for the kind of problem a man can’t say out loud, if the best actor ends up with it, head to the Quille residence hospital. Free treatment.” “You—” Rage washed over Theodore, his face going stone-cold. Since this was hitting a man’s pride, Charlotte jumped in fast to smooth things over. “Okay, okay. We’re all healthy and safe, through all four seasons.” Only then did Nathan and Theodore each huff and turn away. Seeing that, Charlotte grumbled inside. People said three women made a whole show, but watching two men go at it wasn’t any less dramatic. Thank God that was over. Right then, Tony scrunched her little face at Charlotte. “Mommy, I need the bathroom.” She swayed, soft and squishy, clearly urgent. Usually, the Sweetheart was independent as can be, but in a car, it was really not convenient. Nathan glanced at her, then ordered softly, “Find the nearest restroom and pull over.” “Got it, Mr. Quille.” Charlotte hurried to thank him. “Thanks, really. Sorry for the trouble.” In no time, the car stopped under a canopy of trees. Charlotte hopped out, turned back to scoop up the kid. “Come on, Mommy’s got you.” Tony was a little princess. The second she moved, Benny and Tony went to follow like they were on springs. Theodore saw them all going and couldn’t sit still. He rushed after them. “Charlotte, I’m coming too. This place is out in the sticks. Just in case!” Nathan’s brow pinched. He’d planned to go as well, but when he stood, he spotted three juice cups the kids had drunk from. An idea lit up. He’d wanted a DNA retest for a long time, but the chance never came. This was heaven-sent. So he sat back down slowly. While Theodore fussed over Charlotte and the three Sweethearts, Nathan drew the juice cups over to his side of the table. Just then, Belinda got wind and had the Sherrod residence’s driver scour the city for him. She barked into her phone, “Are you useless? I want his exact location!” The detective on the other end wore a bitter look, facing a wall of screens showing endless roadside cams. Suddenly, he shouted, pumped. “Mrs. Sherrod, the car stopped—right by a public restroom!” Belinda snapped out an address and had the driver gun it. Luckily, it wasn’t far. They arrived fast. She stepped out, spotted the familiar car, fixed her face, and flitted over like a gaudy butterfly. “Nathan! Can we talk again, please?” The familiar voice hit; Nathan’s face darkened at once. Two little ones perked their heads at the sound. “Daddy, Mommy’s here to cause trouble!” Belinda yanked the door open and climbed in, eyes red, playing the poor, fragile act. “Nathan, I’ve been looking for you these past few days.” Nathan’s face chilled. “We’ve been very clear already. Assistant Hu, see her out.” Assistant Hu moved in and grabbed Belinda at once. Tears spilled down Belinda’s cheeks. She braced to throw herself forward and clutch Nathan’s arm, crying her heart out, but he wouldn’t spare her a glance. That’s when Belinda saw the three juice cups set by Nathan’s hand. Her heart lurched. Ever since the Quille residence quietly did a DNA test last time, she’d been hyper-alert to things like that. Word was Nathan had come with Charlotte, so she’d rushed over to check. Which meant those three cups had to be from Charlotte’s three Sweethearts. Panic tightened her chest. Had they not given up on this? A vicious glint flashed in her eyes; her face twisted, then smoothed back into sweet, proper calm. She softened her voice. “Nathan, did you take the kids out for fun? Could I join you? It’s been so long since I spent time with them.” She looked at him, all hopeful. Nathan’s expression stayed cool. His voice stayed cold. “Assistant Hu.” Already out of the car, Assistant Hu grabbed Belinda’s arm and forced her away.
