• After Charlotte left the school, she headed straight home.
• She’d taken the whole day off. Besides handling the kids’ enrollment in the morning—which barely filled a few hours—she suddenly had nothing but time. When the kids were around, she felt like she had no time to herself; once they were gone, the mansion felt massive, echoing, and way too empty.
