Chapter 11 Mommy Was Stunned By Daddy

  • Charlotte watched the child's face, feigning calmness, and noticed his small hands unconsciously clenched tight. She assured him, “Everything will be fine. I promise.”
  • When Daniel heard her words, a heavy weight settled in his heart. His lips trembled involuntarily, yet he found himself unable to utter a word of gratitude.
  • Ever since his father fell ill, doctors had been coming and going. But this was the first time he had heard someone make such a confident guarantee.
  • “Eli, did you hear that? Dr. Sherrod said Daddy will be okay...”
  • Charlotte gazed at him, her emotions churning within her. Her eyes grew increasingly profound, akin to an unfathomable abyss.
  • She truly yearned to hold them close, to whisper gently to her two precious ones that there was no need to fear. Now that she was here, she would be there for everything!
  • However, she couldn't. She couldn't even utter unnecessary words. For six years, she had reminded herself to be cautious. Nearby, the three silent little ones had walked up to them.
  • Trepidation was etched on her face as Olivia gazed at her younger brothers, assuring them, “Don't worry. If Mommy says she can cure him, then she definitely can!”
  • Anthony, with a serious expression, took hold of his younger brothers' hands, whispering, “If anything is bothering you or if there's anything else, be sure to let us know on WhatsApp. We're always here for you.”
  • He puffed out his chest, speaking with a hearty pat on it.
  • Daniel and Elijah watched them, their hearts swelling with emotion. Then, hanging their heads in guilt, they said, “We're sorry. We doubted your mommy's medical skills. You truly are good people.”
  • As they spoke, they bowed toward Charlotte. “We're sorry, Dr. Sherrod.”
  • Olivia blinked her eyes, revealing an innocent smile, and softly said, “Ah, it's too formal for you to call my mommy Sherrod. You can just call her Ms. Charlotte!”
  • A thought crossed Charlotte's mind as she tenderly looked at the two children. With a soft voice, she said, “Indeed, you can call me Ms. Charlotte. I'm not sure why, but I felt such a fondness for you two the moment I laid eyes on you!”
  • Daniel's and Elijah's faces instantly flushed with embarrassment. Shyly, Elijah called out softly, “Ms. Charlotte.”
  • He spoke cautiously, calling out to her while simultaneously lowering his head and stealing glances at her from the corner of his eyes.
  • Charlotte's heart melted like a spring puddle as she listened, unable to contain the surge of emotions within her. Without hesitation, she stepped forward and bent down to embrace them.
  • “Indeed, I'm here. I'll always be here.” Feeling the warmth of the two little bodies against hers, Charlotte couldn't help but tear up, her voice choked with emotion.
  • Daniel and Elijah seemed to be held like this by someone for the first time. Their bodies were stiff, but inside, they were over the moon, their eyes crinkling with happiness.
  • Charlotte held them for a little while longer, struggling against her unwillingness to let go before she finally stood up. “All right,” she said. “I'm going to remove your daddy's acupuncture needles now. Once they're out, his fever should subside.”
  • Charlotte walked back to the bedside, swiftly retrieving the needles, then meticulously buttoned up the man's shirt. Throughout this process, she encountered his blazing hot muscles more than once, causing her heart to tremble repeatedly.
  • Once she had finished everything, she took another look at the man. His forehead was smooth, his eyebrows sharp, and his eyes bright. The few strands of hair that fell across his face softened his striking features, giving him a breathtaking, icy beauty. This face was so handsome that even the heavens would marvel at it. His features greatly resembled those of their children, and the thought that her precious little ones would grow up to be so handsome filled her heart with indescribable joy.
  • I'm sorry, Mr. Quille. By the time you wake up, I'll have already taken the kids and flown far away. Consider this as payment for saving you!
  • Charlotte was entranced as she stared at Nathan's face. Bennett and Olivia exchanged a glance, both revealing expressions that hinted they were up to something.
  • Olivia brought the thermometer from the side. As she looked up, her voice was sweet as she said, “Mommy, why are you staring at Mr. Quille in a daze? Hurry and take his temperature!”
  • Bennett blinked his eyes. “But Mr. Quille is so handsome. I've never seen anyone that good-looking in my entire life!”
  • The two babies exchanged glances. Olivia pouted slightly, mumbling under her breath, “Who knows if we'll ever get the chance to meet such a handsome guy again?”
  • Her words were laden with innuendo.
  • Daddy is so handsome. If Mommy doesn't act fast, she might lose this golden opportunity!
  • Naturally, Charlotte had overheard the two's secret intentions and couldn't help but roll her eyes in exasperation. She took the thermometer in one hand, bending her fingers to tap on Olivia's little head lightly. With a flushed face, she forcefully clarified, “I was just observing Mr. Quille's complexion, nothing more. Don't spout nonsense.”
  • Then, she inserted the digital thermometer into the man's ear, making a faint beep.
  • “Thirty-seven degrees. The fever has subsided,” she said with a slight smile, looking at Daniel and Elijah.
  • The eyes of the two children immediately lit up, and they said excitedly, “Thank you, Ms. Charlotte.”
  • Charlotte continued in a soft voice, “The poison in Mr. Quille is rare, and the antidote is quite complex. It requires not only a daily concoction of various medicinal soups but also acupuncture treatments. If I were to administer the treatment, it would take at least a month. Even if my teacher were to do it, the timeline would be roughly the same. But now, Old Mr. Quille has requested my teacher to come out of seclusion. He will likely arrive in about two weeks. In the meantime, I can assist in stabilizing Mr. Quille's condition.”
  • Daniel and Elijah were already in awe of her capabilities. Without hesitation, they nodded. “Okay!”
  • As Charlotte spoke, she suddenly thought of Seamus, and a troubled frown creased her forehead. “That Dr. Lynch has quite a problem with me now. If I were to come over for treatment, I'm sure Old Mr. Quille wouldn't agree either...”
  • Daniel immediately patted his chest and said, “Ms. Charlotte, leave all these matters to us! From now on, just like today, my brother and I will secretly bring you over here in the evenings.”
  • Charlotte had never engaged in such surreptitious activities before, and she knew they weren't particularly honorable. However, faced with the hopeful gazes of the children, she still found herself nodding in agreement.
  • Once back at the hotel, Charlotte issued yet another warning to her three little ones. Only after watching them obediently retreat to their rooms to sleep did she finally settle down on the couch.
  • She furrowed her brows, her heart heavy with worry. Earlier at the Quille residence, she hadn't fully explained the situation, and she was too concerned about the children. For some unknown reason, Nathan's illness had rapidly progressed, as if someone had injected him with more poison. If she didn't start treatment immediately, she feared she wouldn't be able to wait for the arrival of her teacher. That was why she had taken the risky decision to begin the treatment secretly.
  • But how could things have turned out like this?
  • Charlotte was deep in thought, her expression grave as she pondered over the day's events. Deep down, she still felt that the poison was inextricably linked to Belinda. Even Seamus, whom she had summoned, might not be entirely trustworthy.
  • Ring!
  • The grating ringtone of her phone shattered Charlotte's train of thought. As she picked up the phone and her gaze fell on the string of digits displayed, her expression abruptly hardened. A complex mix of emotions—melancholy, resentment, and an icy indifference—flickered in her eyes.
  • “Hello,” she answered coldly.
  • “You ungrateful girl! You actually have the nerve to come back. Be at Oceanic Hotel for lunch at eleven tomorrow!” A cold and commanding voice echoed from the other end of the phone line.
  • Charlotte's face hardened, her gaze sharp and scornful. After six years apart, this biological father of hers was just as repulsive as ever. His presumptuous attitude, not considering her feelings in the slightest, remained unchanged.
  • She chuckled self-deprecatingly. Perhaps he had never seen her as a daughter at all.
  • However, she didn't mind it anymore. She was rather curious to find out what exactly the other party was planning to do.
  • “Fine.” She then ended the call.
