Chapter 9 Under The Disguise

• The air in Harrison’s mansion was colder than usual. Ivy’s heart pounded in her chest as she sat at the edge of the couch, her eyes flickering toward the large clock on the wall. Each tick echoed louder than the last, like a countdown to an unseen consequence.
• Her mind replayed everything she’d overheard the night before. “A leak in the operation,” Harrison’s voice had been as sharp as broken glass. “If it’s who I think it is, they won’t live to see another sunrise.”
• “You’re not the rat,” she mumbled under his breath to herself. “You’re not the rat.” But doubt was a slippery thing, and in a house full of liars and criminals, innocence was a weak shield.
