- The cacophony of shattered glass and whizzing bullets drowned out Ivy’s scream. She stayed bent on the floor, her arms wrapped protectively over her head as shards rained around her. Elias pressed against her, shielding her with his body as more shots tore through the room.
- “Stay down!” Elias shouted, his voice a raw command as he pulled a pistol from his holster. He glanced toward Harrison, still sprawled on the ground, blood soaking his shirt, and cursed under his breath.
