Chapter 15 Shades In The Ashes

• The world was muted, everything was moving in slow and deliberate flashes. The coppery tang of blood hung in the air, sharp and suffocating. Ivy’s ears rang with a high-pitched whine that dulled every sound to a distant echo.
• Her breath came in shallow, uneven gasps as her eyes went to Harrison’s body sprawled on the ground. Blood pooled beneath him, dark and spreading like ink on tissue. His eyes were half-closed, his face unnervingly still.
• “No, no, no!” Ivy’s voice broke as she scrambled toward him, her hands shaking uncontrollably. “Harrison, stay with me! Do you hear me? Stay with me!” She pressed her hands against his chest, her fingers slick with blood. Panic surged through her heart like wildfire.
