Chapter 9 She's Mine

  • "Table 5!" Someone shouted from the outside.
  • I quickly went to serve the order of table 5. When I came out I immediately saw the sharp look at me of my bearded supervisor standing behind the counter. Though trembling and almost trembling I insisted I serve the food with great modesty.
  • "Here's your order sir, one serving of paella and Gazpacho." I uttered as I read his order on the receipt.
  • "Yes lady, thank you." the guy smiled courteously.
  • I would have turned my back when he called me so I had a big smile when I faced him.
  • “Wait miss,” he called me, “You’re new here?” he asked.
  • I nodded while holding the tray, "Yes sir."
  • He smiled and nodded, I was about to turn around but he still spoke and talked. It wasn't that long but when I said goodbye to go back to the waiting area I saw my supervisor's sharp look. I sighed due to nervousness. When I arrived at the waiting area, Alexa kicked me. One of the waitresses at this restaurant.
  • "Look at Senior, he looks at you badly." whispering she said to me.
  • “He seemed to have a hot head on me. It's forbidden to talk to the costumer? ” I asked.
  • She hissed, “It's not forbidden, you see, there’s only a few costumers. Even if you dance with the costumer, it's okay. ” I looked at her reasoning.
  • "Even Alexa, it's still a job. Maybe we're not allowed to mix with people who don't belong to us." I said.
  • "I mean, Senior likes you." He was referring to the supervisor.
  • “Huh? You're wrong Alexa. Senior doesn't look at me at all. ” I agree with what he said.
  • I think I can't help but fight, Senior is old and it's disgusting to think that he will like me.
  • “Hmp! It's up to you, as long as I think differently from Senior. ” shrugging his shoulders.
  • I just tried to dismiss in my mind what he said. I was just dumbfounded looking at the costumers. Almost all tables are occupied by doubles. That means they are together or dating. I bit my lower lip as I watched them. With the candle light aura of this restaurant, I can’t help but to remember just days ago how I’m also sitting into that kind of table waiting for someone.
  • I sighed again, I shoved the cellphone in the pocket of my uniform because it rang. I secretly glanced at Senior before looking at who was texting on my cellphone.
  • From Enoch:
  • Where were you, Angel?
  • I came to your dorm and they told me that you no longer live in there.
  • My mind wandered because of what he said. But I don't think I'm as nervous as I thought. I expected it to be worse than this. It was annoying because my frustration was even more prevalent because I didn't see Hugh's name. It’s not that I’m waiting for him to text me okay? I’m just wondering if he still wants to continue this surrogacy thing.
  • He should have just text me a single letter or what, not that he’ll leave me without any idea what’s the real deal between us. He said he wants me to get checked, then why would he not contact me?
  • "Angelita!" Shout of someone who startled me.
  • I quickly put my cellphone back in my pocket and saw the blazing look at me with my super visor. He signaled his hands that the table 6 needs some assistance. I smiled raw and went to table 6.
  • "Good evening, sir." my introductory greetings.
  • I stopped half way when the guy looked up to me and casually leaned into the chair making himself comfortable. My heart beat went so fast that I can’t even comprehend what I’m feeling. Heck, hell! Why is he here?
  • He’s wearing the usual suit and tie, the only difference is that the ties around his neck are loose as if to say he’s done with what work he did that day. I gulped the bulging pressure in my throat. It was as if my tongue was cut out and I could not speak as I saw his cold and gentle eyes. Is that even possible?
  • "W-what's your order sir?" I asked with a shaky voice. I swallowed again and again because of staring at him. I can’t believe, he didn’t contact me for how many days and now he’ll show up like some kind of ghost or what! What does this one want to happen?
  • "You work here." He said.
  • It was as if my back was bruised by the depth and coldness of his voice. It's like I haven't heard him in years and now I'm very thirsty to hear that voice of his. I didn't know what to say to him. In his tone I’m sure it wasn’t that question, it seemed like he just said that to confirm what was on his mind.
  • “Y-yes. Uhm ... ” I stared at the menu on the table, I wanted to tell him that if possible he would have chosen the order but nothing came out of my mouth. He gave me a passing look from head to toe before he looked back into my eyes.
  • "Sit here." he commanded.
  • I gasped, "I'm still on duty."
  • "Hmm." He clasped his hands and he raised his one eyebrow like he can’t believe I just declined his command.
  • “Can I just get your order sir? We still have a costumer. ” I said almost whispering.
  • He chuckled sounding so proud, “Sir?” he turned to me. I almost want to back off. If only Alexa had assisted him. I turned to the counter and I wasn't wrong, the senior looked at me badly as if waiting for my every move.
  • “S-sir, please. I’ll just text you. I still have a work in here. ” I pleaded.
  • He licked his lips and his expression was like he can’t believe that I’m really declining his request. I can’t get that reaction of his but I don’t care anymore. My concern is for Senior not to scold me.
  • "Serve me a bottle of wine." That's all he said.
  • "What wine-"
  • He cut my words, “Anything.” He said emphatically, without looking back at me. He seemed angry and exhausted.
  • "R-right away, sir." I uttered.
  • I turned around and felt like I was breathing fresh air again. When he’s in front of me it feels like I’m being suffocated. I was at the counter and Senior's wrinkled forehead opened up to me.
  • “You’re just asking for orders, why would you take that long?”
  • “S-sorry sir, he ordered for a bottle of wine. Any wine, he said. ” I said.
  • He typed through the counter, “Give him the most expensive one, for sure he doesn’t drink cheap wine. He’s Hugh Rockwell, of course. ” he uttered with a clear diction and accent.
  • I was a little surprised because he knew this. He’s really rich huh? That even the novice restaurant would recognize him. I reached for the wine he gave and continued to serve on Hugh’s table.
  • When I approached, my heart trembled again.
  • ”Here’sa bottle of Teso La Monja, sir. ”
  • "Cut the crap, Angel." I was taken a back.
  • He said that loudly so other customers heard him. I was afraid that he might follow through on what he said and that I would end up resenting him. Aside from the fact that I could smell her perfume I don’t know why she didn’t want me to be formal with her. He looks at me deeply and badly, threatening that if I call him again, I will have a place to go. I nodded slightly and quickly turned around to go to the waiting area.
  • My heart still can't stop beating. In the distance I could clearly see how he himself opened the bottle and poured the wine into his glass on his own. I looked at Senior and fortunately he was busy pressing what was on the counter. Alexa, who had just finished assisting another customer, told me again.
  • “Girl, that’s Mr. Rockwell. ” There’s a streak of what Alexa’s tone is.
  • I shrugged and pretended I just didn't have it. He’s well known. Why does it seem like I'm the only one who doesn't know him?
  • "H-how did you know about him?" I forced myself to sound casual with that question of mine.
  • “Huh? Who will not know him? Hello! With the amount of business chain he has here, it's likely that even his shadow will be recognized by everyone. And duh ~ He’s like, hot ‘hot’ you know? Not like hot but hot ‘hot’ ”she giggled.
  • I didn’t get what he wanted to say because all that wouldn’t sink in on me. Instead of smiling back at him I looked straight at him who was now fiddling with what was on his cellphone. I bit my lip as I was trying to tip toe like as if I will see what he’s doing.
  • "Wait," Alexa said as the table called to her side.
  • Meanwhile, I was still dumbfounded by him but that stopped when I felt my cellphone vibrate in the pocket of my uniform.
  • From Hugh:
  • You work for me. Why the hell are you out here serving some random shit people huh?
  • My heart beat went wild. It feels weird that his name is what I see on my cellphone screen. I turned to him and he looked straight at me. I gasped, almost out of breath.
  • To Hugh:
  • Are you ‘random shit people?’
  • Now I raised an eyebrow at him. I work for him, eh? This arrogant controlling asshole. I saw him looked at his phone, after he read that he turned to me and registered his scary smile. You can only feel a smile of pure twitter and nothing else.
  • Because I didn't want to lose, I gave him a hard time. That’s for you, rich ass hot business tycoon or whatever. My phone beeped again.
  • From Hugh:
  • You serve me. I’ll only serve you.
  • I stared at it. My mouth went agape as I read his text, I understood that but why did it seem like while I was repeating the repetition I realized a different meaning there.
  • "Useless bitch!"
  • The next thing I knew from hearing the loud shout is my phone being banged on the granite floor of the restaurant. I looked in front of me and saw Senior, our supervisor who just made my phone flew.
  • "S-sir"
  • ”I pay you and all you do is wonder around! What are you huh? I shouldn’t have hired you in the first place, you dumb! ” He shouted.
  • My tears welled up because of the fire he said. I can feel the way people think because of all the rumors.
  • “Sir, I-I’m really sorry it’s just that- ”
  • “No reasons! Shut up and get out of here! ” He didn’t just throw that another blow but he even stepped hard on my phone that’s on the floor.
  • "Sir!" I shouted in shock.
  • My eyes are watery and anytime my tears would flood out. This is my only phone, I need it so bad and I can’t afford to loose this. I kneel and picked up the pieces of my phone as I silently bite my lip as I was trying to not escape any sound.
  • "Get out of here you woman, I don't want to see your face anymore." He said with finality.
  • I looked down, just watching my cellphone in my hands in pieces. People are even more obvious now that they are speaking loudly. I’m so ashamed. I can’t bare to stand up and face them.
  • I close both of my fist as I felt my chest squeezed tight due to pain and shame. As I was shutting my eyes tight I felt a warm feeling at my chin and as I open my eyes, I was surprise to see his dazzling eyes.
  • He doesn’t have a smile on his face but I felt like he just told me that he’s here for me. My tears continue to flow on my cheeks but before it could even get worse he wiped the rest of it and smiled lightly. I didn’t know that he has this beautiful shade of brown eyes. He’s suddenly looking so different now that he’s here, in front of me.
  • He smiled lightly but it didn’t reach his eyes. His fingers went down to my lips and he brushed it lightly before saying his words to me.
  • “I told you my Angel. You serve me… And I’ll only serve you. ”
  • And with that, he stood up and before he turned his back on me and face my supervisor. It was as if my eyes had a slow mo function that I clearly saw his face turned like an evil ruthless man.
  • "You think I'll let you slid on this one?" I heard him uttered with a dripping cold slash of tone.
  • “M-Mr. Rockwell… she’s… ”
  • I heard Senior stutter.
  • "No one touch this lady, she's mine."
