• "Mommy, wake up!" Early in the morning, Evie and Ethan burst into the room with their cheerful shouts and jumped onto their parents' big bed. The two little wolf pups were full of energy, bouncing around like crazy. Damian instinctively opened his eyes and wrapped Amelia in the quilt, holding her close like a precious gem, trying to shield her from the remnants of the night.
• "Shh! Your mom had a long night. Let her rest," he whispered to the kids, lowering his voice as he glanced at Amelia, who was still asleep.
• Evie and Ethan nodded, their little wolf ears perked up with excitement, but they quietly backed off, their paws making no noise on the floor. They whispered to each other about heading downstairs to play with their great-grandparents.
