Chapter 5 Five

  • At work on a fresh and glowing Monday morning, Octavia was finding it a little bit hard to focus on her work. While she was at it, she received an internal telephone call, seeing that it was from Lachlan Williams, she answered at once.
  • "How many of the files have you translated?" Came his cold voice.
  • "I just finished the third one."
  • "Will it take you four years to translate seven files?" He asked unpleased.
  • Before she could say another word, he commanded. "Meet me downstairs at the parking lot." Then the call came to an end.
  • Octavia exhaled. It was true that she was slow in translating the files, it's only because she has not been fully focused. No matter how she tried to focus, her mind kept on trailing back to her meeting with Cullan yesterday.
  • She just couldn't get his words out of her head.
  • Soon, Octavia was downstairs, walking towards the parking lot. She then saw a Mercedes Maybach driving towards her, once it parked before her, the window came down and Lachlan Williams spoke, "get in!"
  • Octavia stepped inside the car. She was seated at the backseat with Lachlan Williams even as the car moved. She swallowed repeatedly as a result of how nervous she was feeling.
  • When she couldn't hold her curiosity anymore, she finally asked, "may I know where we are heading to?"
  • "To meet with a client." He responded.
  • "Oh!" Was all she said before she looked away from him.
  • A few moments of silence passed in the car, then Lachlan Williams spoke, "I need to meet up with those kids on Friday. Set up our meeting and make sure the doctor is present. If those kids turns out to be mine, I'll make their mother suffer."
  • Octavia's eyes fell. Her stomach tumbled and fear gripped her heart. Those were her kids he was referring to.
  • "Okay." Octavia acted like all is well. She looked away to hide her emotions.
  • She will set up the meeting as he had commanded but she will ensure that her kids are not present. What type of CEO even sets up meeting with kids?
  • "What kind of doctor should I get, sir?"
  • "Speak to Benjamin about it, he'll guide you further." Was all his reply before the car finally came to an halt.
  • Both adults stepped down from the car and walked towards a very big cafeteria. Octavia had to take a quick look at herself to be sure she was dressed properly or if at all her dressing needs any adjustment.
  • All of a sudden, she felt like she was being stared at. She looked around but couldn't see who she perceived could be staring at her.
  • "It's a meeting not a tour." Came Lachlan William's words.
  • She quickly brought her focus back. Soon, they were inside the VIP section of the cafeteria. Apparently, the client they were to meet with was already seated, waiting for them.
  • Lachlan Williams and Octavia then sat before the man and started with exchanging formal pleasantries. While the conversation was going on, Octavia felt the heavy stares on her again but she didn't want to divert her attention since a serious conversation was going on and although she was not necessary participating in the exchange of words, she was writing details of their conversation down.
  • When she couldn't bare it anymore, she swiftly turned. She exhaled on seeing who had been staring at her, it was Cullan. Was he stalking her or what?
  • "Your assistant seemed to be lost in thought," the client chirped. He was an old man who however was dressed smartly in a black tuxedo suit.
  • "I'm right here with you, sir." Octavia spoke swiftly, her attention was now on the man.
  • "Do you want to remind me what my last statement was?"
  • Before Octavia could respond, Lachlan Williams spoke, "I do not think that matters. We should go on with our conversation."
  • "How do you know what matters to me? Her lack of attention to our conversation is a clear sign that she's unserious and that you tolerate it. While that doesn't matter to some clients, it matters heavily to me. I can easily conclude most staff of your company are unserious."
  • He continued, "and it's your staff that will carry out the job, technically. Not you. My money is not worth risking on your company. I hope you find better client, Mr. Lachlan." The old man then stood.
  • He was about to walk away when he suddenly paused, "you know.... Your father has a good legacy. He would never have brought an unserious staff with him on a deals that anounts into billions in dollars. Excuse me!" Then the man walked away.
  • Octavia was dumbfounded. Her heart began to palpitate. She had messed things up. She's definitely getting fired. And that's if she's not sued.
  • Octavia stood swiftly and walked after the man. The man was already heading to the car when Octavia caught up with him.
  • "Sir, My attention was sincerely with you. I did remember every word you said there. Please don't be angry. I shouldn't be the reason why you wouldn't invest with our company."
  • The man didn't stop walking until he got by his car. He then turned to Octavia, "You think I didn't close the deal because you weren't paying attention?"
  • Octavia became slightly confused with his statement, "Settle scores with your ex husband. He had pulled some strings underneath that would make me unable to go on with the deal. I'm really sorry, Octavia." Then he got inside his car and drove off.
  • "What!" Octavia exclaimed in shock. How did Cullan knew that she was meeting with a client with Lachlan Williams? And why did he stop the man from investing in the company?
  • Octavia became angry with Cullan. What in the world is wrong with this crackhead? With a clenched fist, Octavia began to walk back inside. She met Lachlan Williams halfway and her clenched fist loosen a little. She had caused him a great deal.
  • "Sir, I'm so sorry." She apologized, even as she followed him out.
  • "I couldn't convince the man but I promise to fix this." Octavia assumed the deal meant a lot to Lachlan.
  • Lachlan suddenly paused and bursted out, "fuck him and fuck your ex husband! I saw your ex husband in there. He's the one that diverted your attention, right? Fix whatever is going on between you two. If this happens again, I'll kill you."
  • Then he got inside his car and told his driver to drive off, leaving Octavia behind
