Chapter 40 The Long Chase

• Sarah lay motionless on the hospital bed. Her breathing had evened out, her pulse steady beneath the nurse’s careful watch. Outside, Damian leaned against the doorway with arms crossed, his eyes fixed on every movement inside the small ward. He was wary but not suspicious—and that was exactly what Sarah needed.
• Xander, on the other hand, paced a few feet away, his expression tight with agitation. His men stood stiffly before him. His gaze burned into them, slow and searing, like a blade dragged across skin.
• “Which of you,” Xander’s voice came low, lethal, “gave her the pill?”
