Chapter 7 Futile Effort

  • Keeping his phone in his pocket, he grabbed his car key from the table and immediately departed for the hotel.
  • He swore to himself: If you hurt her in any way… I’ll be sure to finish you off, Gu Chenxuan!
  • Tang Muyue didn’t go to the washroom after she left the lounge. Instead, she hid at a corner of another corridor.
  • After a while, Tang Muyue saw with her own eyes that Gu Chenxuan was following her. After standing in front of the ladies’ washroom and glancing left and right a few times, he headed in.
  • I was right! Tang Muyue had had enough of Song Jingyuan’s nasty tricks in her past life; she saw right through Song Jingyuan’s scheme. She knew she would be handed over to Gu Chenxuan once she became drunk, and he would bring her up to the room that Song Jingyuan had prepared beforehand. Song Jingyuan would then alert Li Xuanxiao… He’s probably on his way here right now!
  • Soon after, Song Jingyuan came out of the lounge as well.
  • Tang Muyue laughed in her heart when she saw Song Jingyuan. Tang Muyue found herself pathetic, and blamed herself for being such a fool for having regarded Song Jingyuan as her best friend. Fine, since she has put so much effort into this plan, why let it go to waste?
  • Tang Muyue decided to go along with Song Jingyuan’s plot. She texted Gu Chenxuan: Chenxuan, I’m drunk and it feels awful. Could you please come to room 6318?
  • 6318? Gu Chenxuan read Tang Muyue’s text and immediately checked out the access card Song Jingyuan had given him. The numbers matched. It can’t be wrong.
  • Humph, he initially thought that Tang Muyue had grown proud of herself because of how gorgeous she was tonight. He thought she had forgotten about him. However, it seemed like she couldn’t let go of him after all! Gu Chenxuan felt a boost of satisfaction and headed upstairs.
  • Everything went according to plan. It was almost time.
  • Song Jingyuan and Tang Muyue now shared a common goal. They were both waiting for Li Xuanxiao to arrive.
  • Fifteen minutes later.
  • A well-polished luxury car made a sudden brake right in front of the hotel.
  • Li Xuanxiao stepped out of his car, emitting an aura of formidable strength. As he walked into the hotel, his presence stunned those around him.
  • His face was gloomy. He was feeling anxious, but that did not affect his innate charisma.
  • Song Jingyuan was already there waiting for him. She thought she had everything under control.
  • Nothing could possibly go wrong.
  • Just as she saw Li Xuanxiao, she went over and welcomed him.
  • “Xuanxiao! Finally, you’re here. I knocked on their door just now but there was no response. Xuanxiao, they are alone in the room. Could they possibly have…”
  • Li Xuanxiao’s expression turned a few shades darker. He immediately called for the front desk manager.
  • The front desk manager froze the moment he saw him.
  • “Lead the way.”
  • These simple words were enough to make everyone quiver out of fear.
  • The front desk manager did as instructed. After all, this hotel was one of the Li Group Corporation's properties. That man was just an employee; how could he possibly go against the word of their young CEO!
  • Soon after, the three of them arrived outside the room.
  • Click –
  • The door opened.
  • Song Jingyuan felt triumphant as she began to celebrate someone else’s misfortune in her mind. She started to imagine how things would develop from hereon.
  • Tang Muyue and Gu Chenxuan must be together right now. Humph, let’s see what they have to say about this!
  • As the door opened, the person inside was shocked, “Who is that!”
  • It was Gu Chenxuan’s voice. He was wearing a bathrobe and enjoying a glass of wine. The sudden opening of the door had given him a fright.
  • As for Tang Muyue, she was nowhere to be seen!
  • Song Jingyuan was surprised by the scene in front of her. She saw only Gu Chenxuan.
  • Shouldn’t they be having their good time by now? What’s going on…
  • “Where is she?”
  • Li Xuanxiao couldn’t find Tang Muyue anywhere and he turned to Song Jingyuan. His fierce gaze was petrifying.
  • Song Jingyuan gritted her teeth. That’s impossible! How could she be missing? It is…
  • “I know where she is – she must be in the bathroom!”
  • As she finished her sentence, Song Jingyuan immediately rushed over to the bathroom. Apart from steam left over from Gu Chenxuan’s bath, there was nothing. No one.
  • Where on earth is she! How could she just vanish into thin air? Just where the hell is Tang Muyue!
  • Song Jingyuan felt embarrassed. She looked at Gu Chenxuan.
  • “Chenxuan, where is Muyue? Didn’t you bring her up?” confronted Song Jingyuan.
  • Gu Chenxuan replied, “I didn’t bring her up.”
  • He had a plan of his own, too, but things did not turn out as he wished. He had rushed to the room, but found no trace of Tang Muyue.
  • Song Jingyuan panicked; Li Xuanxiao stared right into her eyes upon hearing Gu Chenxuan’s reply.
  • Without saying a word, Li Xuanxiao started to walk away. Song Jingyuan’s heart sank. She rushed over to explain herself, “Please don’t be mad, Xuanxiao. I really saw it with my eyes, trust me…”
  • Li Xuanxiao ignored her.
  • It was then that Tang Muyue - whom everyone had been searching for - showed up at the corridor. When she saw Li Xuanxiao, she ran towards him cheerfully and clung onto him like a koala bear.
  • “Dear, why are you here? Are you here to pick me up?”
  • She spoke gently and affectionately. Coupled with her pretty face, she looked so adorable that no one could resist pampering her.
  • Li Xuanxiao was obviously surprised beyond words.
  • Is this woman really Tang Muyue?
  • What did she just call me again? “Dear”?
  • Is something wrong with my ears?
  • Previously, Tang Muyue had never bothered to get close to him. She had not even walked alongside him. And she had always addressed him in his full name - “dear” was never in her vocabulary.
  • Song Jingyuan was shocked as well.
  • “Aren’t you drunk?” Li Xuanxiao took a step back from Tang Muyue, who was behaving like a koala bear to a tree.
  • Tang Muyue was confused and asked in return, “Me? Drunk? Who told you anything about me being drunk? I mean, I did have a few sips, but I’m not drunk. If you don’t believe it, you can test me. How much is one plus one? I wouldn’t be wrong! Haha.”
  • Tang Muyue smiled playfully. It was an innocent smile, pure like an angel.
  • Li Xuanxiao felt relieved upon confirming that she was indeed sober.
  • It was then that Song Jingyuan walked over to her side and asked, “Muyue, where were you? I was so worried about you, I thought you were…”
  • Hypocrite!
  • Tang Muyue sneered silently in her mind before she continued, “What’s wrong? I said I was going to the washroom. I told you before I left, didn’t I?”
  • Song Jingyuan was embarrassed and furious at the same time.
  • Even though what Tang Muyue said sounded plausible, Song Jingyuan felt something was off. She was unsure what it was, but she felt that things were slowly getting out of her control.
  • And above all, there was that drastic change in the relationship between Tang Muyue and Li Xuanxiao.
  • Before, Tang Muyue would rather have Li Xuanxiao vanish from the earth just so that she could be with Gu Chenxuan!
  • But now, she addresses him as “dear” so intimately. She is even hugging him and showing affection towards him?
  • It’s just odd!
  • If a person’s gaze could be weaponized, then Song Jingyuan’s stare as this moment would take the form of a dagger making its way to Tang Muyue, finishing her off!
  • Song Jingyuan had a huge crush on Li Xuanxiao; she was just too timid to let him know. But why does Tang Muyue get to interact so closely with him?
  • This should all belong to me, Song Jingyuan. Who does Tang Muyue think she is!
  • Even though Song Jingyuan kept her jealousy to her heart, Tang Muyue was able to capture the minute change in her facial expression from the corner of her eyes.
  • That horrifying and disgusting face! Song Jingyuan was like the evil witch who tried to feed Snow White the poisoned apple.
  • Tang Muyue thought: I was indeed blind back then, to not have understood what was really going on.
