Chapter 4 Farewell Tang Muyue

  • It was a scorching hot day.
  • Tang Muyue couldn't wait to get out of the car once the black Rolls-Royce had pulled to a stop.
  • She dragged her lunch date into a nearby restaurant.
  • It was a restaurant she had visited before. Even though she had only been there once, she could recall its authentic native dishes that fully incorporated local characteristics.
  • While ordering, Tang Muyue passed the menu across the table to Li Xuanxiao, “I have trouble choosing what to eat. You make the call!”
  • Li Xuanxiao took over the task and proceeded to order several dishes.
  • Food was served quickly. Soon after, everything they had ordered had arrived. The spread on the table was no less than a feast.
  • Tang Muyue began eating, but before she could try everything on the table, she realized to her surprise that they were all her favourite dishes!
  • Deep down, she was touched. Her epiphany had almost made her cry.
  • She never expected Li Xuanxiao to remember her favourite dishes.
  • She, on the other hand, had no clue what his favourite dishes were! She hated herself so much that she wanted to slap herself in the face.
  • Seeing she had paused eating, Li Xuanxiao began tasting the food and asked casually, “What’s the matter? Are they not to your liking?”
  • Tang Muyue replied while fighting to hold back her tears, “No, it’s not that. It’s very nice.”
  • She resumed eating, but her glance never left the man sitting across from her.
  • After a while, Li Xuanxiao noticed her stare and felt uncomfortable. He lowered his chopsticks and asked, “Now, tell me, what exactly do you want? Are you trying to do things another way around, seeing how you didn’t succeed when you tried the hard way?”
  • Tang Muyue was speechless.
  • Actually, she was only trying to figure out what his favourite dishes were…
  • She didn’t bother explaining her real intention. After all, she was just getting a taste of the natural consequences of her past actions. Even if I explained myself, he might not trust me, either.
  • Tang Muyue ignored his question and started another topic. She said calmly, “I’m returning to the Li Manor tonight, do you… want to go back together?”
  • This time it was Li Xuanxiao’s turn to be stunned. He had not seen that coming.
  • Based on his understanding of Tang Muyue, it would only make sense for her to hide far away and never return to that place for the rest of her life. But here she was, inviting him to return to the Li Manor together.
  • Li Xuanxiao’s train of thought stopped. He concluded that she must have something up her sleeve.
  • Suddenly, he stood up and replied coldly, “No matter what you have in mind, you won’t be getting it! There’s no way I will give in to you!”
  • He then turned around and left, his tall figure slowly fading as he walked out of the door.
  • Tang Muyue let out a helpless sigh. She had been too hasty and impatient.
  • I guess I should take things only one step at a time now.
  • ——
  • After the meal, Tang Muyue returned to the Li Manor.
  • While she felt a sense of commencement ever since she was brought back to life, whatever that had happened in the past felt like they had only occurred yesterday.
  • After she returned to the Li Manor, she nodded politely and smiled at the maid, Aunt Li.
  • When Aunt Li saw her, she stood there, paused in amazement.
  • Tang Muyue smiled again when she saw Aunt Li’s reaction, and went back to her room straight away without saying anything else.
  • Everything felt so familiar as she entered her room. The furniture, the decor… it felt like home. A warm sensation engulfed her as she looked through the things in the bedroom.
  • The room was decorated to her liking. It was almost a complete replica of her bedroom back at the Tang family home.
  • It was obvious that Li Xuanxiao had spent much time and effort furnishing her bedroom; she had just been too ignorant to see that.
  • As she was recalling the past, her phone rang. It was Song Jingyuan.
  • She answered the call. A soft feminine voice from the other end asked, “Muyue, where are you?”
  • Tang Muyue replied truthfully, “I’m at the Li Manor.”
  • Song Jingyuan remained silent for a few seconds before she lost her cool and yelled, “Why are you there again? Muyue, I really don’t know what you’re thinking!”
  • Tang Muyue laughed sarcastically before replying calmly, “I’m already engaged, so of course I have to be back. After all, I can’t return to the Tang family now. Knowing how my dad is, even if I went back, he would surely send me here again, by hook or by crook.”
  • On the other side of the phone, Song Jingyuan dug her nails into her phone. She was almost certain that there was something different about Tang Muyue!
  • Once Tang Muyue returns to the Li Manor, she will get more opportunity to spend time with Li Xuanxiao!
  • This was the last thing Song Jingyuan wanted. She would not allow this to happen!
  • Her eyes were shifty as she grabbed her phone tightly and said, “Haha, why, of course! You have misunderstood my intention; I didn’t mean that. I’m just calling to tell you that there will be a classmates’ gathering tomorrow and Gu Chenxuan will be there, too. I called you immediately after I received the news!”
  • Tang Muyue hissed under her breath: Song Jingyuan couldn’t hold it in anymore.
  • If she recalled correctly, in her past life she had become drunk during the gathering, and that was when Song Jingyuan achieved her hidden agenda.
  • Back then, Tang Muyue didn't know how or why she had entered a hotel room with Gu Chenxuan – and Li Xuanxiao happened to be right there at the scene as well!
  • It was exactly because of that particular incident that conflict arose between the Tang family and the Li family. Things then escalated almost uncontrollably, and matters were only resolved when the elders interfered.
  • Haha
  • Tang Muyue snickered in her mind.
  • Song Jingyuan, are you trying to do the same thing over again?
  • You must have no idea that the old Tang Muyue, who was once an obedient girl that followed your every instruction, is now dead.
  • Since you started all this, I shall entertain you ‘till the end!
