Chapter 11 She Must Be Insane

  • Half an hour later, Tang Muyue arrived at her campus.
  • As she walked into the lecture hall, she could hear whisperings coming from her classmates. Some looked at her with disdain while the others were gossiping behind her back.
  • “What is she doing here?”
  • “Such a loser. How dare she continue to stay in the department?”
  • The Department of Finance was full of elite students and Tang Muyue, who came from a rich family, had disrupted their peace, causing dissatisfaction among them.
  • She remained nonchalant even though she heard them.
  • Her past actions had landed her in this undesirable situation today. In fact, a majority of them were caused by Song Jingyuan.
  • Because of the latter, she had pissed off many people. That was precisely why her course mates had hated her so much! Fortunately, Tang Muyue was used to it and she ignored them.
  • She sat in her usual seat and began arranging her notes, getting ready for the upcoming lecture.
  • As soon as she opened her notebook, she knitted her eyebrows tightly together.
  • Her notes were in a mess. The handwriting was so illegible that she couldn’t even decipher a single word. How am I supposed to sort this out?
  • Oh no! I can’t attend the class with this. Tang Muyue was troubled by her predicament.
  • She looked around helplessly. That’s when she noticed a neatly dressed girl reading quietly at a corner by herself.
  • The girl was Lin Jinyuan, one of the top students in their department. She was a nerd and others said that she was an introvert who didn’t like to interact much.
  • If Tang Muyue recalled correctly, Song Jingyuan used to gossip about Lin Jingyuan. She said despite the pure and innocent facade, Lin Jingyuan was simply putting on an act and she had a sugar daddy to support her.
  • The rumors spread like wildfire. Lin Jinyuan was seriously affected by it. Her results fell drastically, and she suffered from so much stress that she had to take a break from her studies.
  • Song Jingyuan even said she must be feeling guilty, that was why she took a break. Now that Tang Muyue thought about it, Song Jingyuan might have spread those rumors deliberately because she was jealous that Lin Jinyuan did better than her academically.
  • Back then, Tang Muyue believed everything that Song Jingyuan said, and she even joined in the crowd to mock Lin Jinyuan.
  • Feeling remorseful, she couldn’t hold back and approached Lin Jinyuan. “Hi. How are you?”
  • The latter was so terrified that she inched away from her. “Tang Muyue, wh-what do you want?”
  • Instead of beating around the bush, she smiled and said, “Don’t worry. I just want to borrow your notes because I missed out on a lot of lessons. I won’t do anything to you.”
  • Borrow my notes?
  • Lin Jinyuan was flabbergasted. The spoiled lady who was lazy and neglected her studies, wants to borrow my notes?
  • “Alright.” Lin Jinyuan hesitated but eventually she did as requested.
  • Song Jingyuan happened to walk into the lecture hall and saw the whole exchange.
  • Her eyes twitched as she walked over, pretending to be friendly. “Hey, Muyue. You’re so early today. What are you doing?”
  • “Borrowing notes,” Tang Muyue replied coldly.
  • Song Jingyuan was doubtful. Is Tang Muyue trying to buck up on her studies? You must be kidding.
  • She pretended to be enthusiastic. “Why didn’t you ask me, Muyue? I can lend you whatever notes you need.”
  • Tang Muyue smiled, uninterested. “That’s fine, I can just refer to Jinyuan’s notes. They’re pretty neat. Besides, I have already borrowed from her, I’ll just copy it.”
  • In fact, Tang Muyue remembered all the notes she borrowed from Song Jingyuan previously were incomplete. The important highlights from the lecture class were omitted on purpose.
  • The lecturer reprimanded her countless times in the past for this matter.
  • Song Jingyuan always denied her responsibility. She would blame Tang Muyue for being careless and not copying the complete notes.
  • After what she had been through, there was no way Tang Muyue would repeat the same mistakes again. She returned to her seat after she collected the notes.
  • Song Jingyuan frowned. She felt that Tang Muyue was behaving like a completely different person. The old Tang Muyue wouldn’t act like this.
  • When she finished copying the notes, Tang Muyue returned them to Lin Jinyuan. “Thank you so much, Jinyuan. I don’t know what I would do in the upcoming lecture without your notes,” the former said gratefully.
  • A dumbfounded Lin Jinyuan stammered, “Y-You’re welcome.”
  • The bell rang. As Tang Muyue returned to her seat, the lecturer walked in.
  • The lecturer began his lesson after he finished taking the attendance.
  • Tang Muyue hadn't been paying attention during class for the past three years. Although she had Lin Junyuan’s notes, she felt lost as she struggled to catch up.
  • As expected, he asked her to answer his question during the question-and-answer session. “Ms. Tang, can you please tell us the correct answer for this question?
  • “It-It’s… it’s...” Tang Muyue was totally confused. She stared at the options provided, but she didn’t know which was the correct one.
  • The lecturer rebuked, “I explained this during the last lecture. Haven’t you been paying attention during my lecture?”
  • Suddenly, a series of mocking laughs filled the entire lecture hall.
  • Tang Muyue felt helpless. It seems like there’s no use trying to force my way through. I really need to spend some time catching up with whatever I missed in the past.
  • After the lecture, she kept her stuff and was about to leave when a smiling Song Jingyuan approached her.
  • “Muyue, shall we walk home together?”
  • Tang Muyue didn’t want to walk back with her, so she turned down her request. “Sorry, I still have some errands to run. You can leave first.”
  • She took her bag and ran after Lin Jinyuan when she saw the latter coming out of the lecture hall. “Jinyuan, wait for me.”
  • The girl was surprised when she saw Tang Muyue chasing after her.
  • “I’m sorry, Jinyuan. I missed too many lectures in the past. Can you please tell me what I should focus on so I can catch up with everyone else?
  • “Erm…” Lin Jinyuan seemed troubled by her request. She knew that she couldn’t fit in with the others, especially Tang Muyue. The two didn’t belong in the same league.
  • Tang Muyue saw her hesitation, and she immediately played the sympathetic card. “Please, Jinyuan. I really need your help.”
  • Lin Jinyuan couldn’t bear to reject her and nodded. “Alright, I’ll send it over to you later.”
  • “Thank you so much! You’re such a kind-hearted angel! Let’s go. I’ll buy you lunch!” Tang Muyue was so happy that she dragged Lin Jinyuan off to lunch.
  • Song Jingyuan saw everything as she stood behind them. She was mad and shocked at the same time. What on earth just happened?
  • Is Tang Muyue insane? Why is she suddenly so friendly with the ugly duckling?
