  • The storm inside me mirrored the one brewing outside. One minute, I craved Ayla's presence, the scent of her filling my lungs, the next, I wanted to shove her as far from me as possible. It was a tug-of-war within my very being, a battle between instinct and… something else, something I couldn’t name. She was becoming too close to me. To close for comfort yet she was all I needed.
  • She'd stormed out of my study, her fury a palpable thing. I could only blame myself. Why would I be so cold to her one minute and kiss her the next second. Part of me, the wolf, screamed to follow, to smooth things over, to soothe the hurt I'd caused. The other part, the man trying to hold onto some ounce of control, told me to let her go. The latter won out.
